Qurator's Mischievous Mondays | The Pet That Wasn't Yours

Welcome to Qurator's Mischievous Mondays!

This will be a weekly competition that we will be hosting every Monday. We want to see a little more engagement and fun when it comes to some of our competitions so this will be a simpler and shorter competition. Easy to enter, but maybe not so easy to win. ;) This competition will be similar to the Monday Missions we had a long time ago, but instead of writing posts to enter we will now consider only the comments and answers on this blog as your entry to win.

Why Mischievous?

We all could use a little fun in our lives. We would even say that we deserve it, let loose a little and have a go at making everyone laugh or think a little, even if it is a little over the top or pure silliness. Go all out and let your creative juices flow.

This week's theme :

A strange animal keeps returning to your house no matter how many times you send it away. It seems to have… an agenda.

Every day, he was there. I woke up early and always saw him, whether on the balcony, in the bushes in my backyard, or even flying around the house when I accidentally left the door open. At first, I thought it was charming. “How beautiful! A small part of nature visiting each other!”, I thought. But over time, something began to bother me.

It's not uncommon for wild animals to appear nearby. Who hasn't come across a curious squirrel or bird? However, this little yellow bird with a brown breast didn't seem to be just a casual visitor. Little by little, I noticed that it was becoming more persistent, more present. As if it was always watching and, at certain moments, I swore it was trying to hide from me, as if it had something to disguise.

Survival instinct? Maybe. But my suspicion grew when, a few days ago, I noticed that a 50-dollar bill had disappeared from my wallet. “Am I getting paranoid?” I thought, ”No one has been to my house for weeks... and how can I explain why the money is missing?”

That's when I started to realize something strange. Who would steal a single 50-dollar bill, leaving the rest of the money intact? The only reasonable explanation I could think of was... the bird. Yes, that damn bird.

I decided to put together a plan. I set up some cameras, prepared a trap and left three bills on the dresser. I opened the window and went into the bathroom. I turned on the shower, letting the sound of the water fool him. Meanwhile, I watched everything on my cell phone.

And then it happened. “Bingo!” I thought. I saw the little bird fly up to the dresser, pick up one of the notes with its beak and fly out of the window, heading in the usual direction. I wasted no time. I ran after it.

Did he have some kind of banknote nest? That would be one explanation, maybe this little bird thought he was some kind of “ostentatious” in the neighborhood? as funny as that might be, I was wrong. The bird wasn't going to a nest. It went straight to the house of a boy who had recently moved into the neighborhood. Strange. Coincidentally, this was the same period when the bird started appearing more frequently.

I decided to investigate. I sneaked into the boy's house and what I found was an obsession: a bird sanctuary. He had an impressive collection of birds, all carefully cared for and fed. It was then that I saw him, that same little yellow bird, perched on one of the cages.

When I took him by surprise and tied him up with a rope that was lying nearby, the boy didn't seem nervous. Instead, he looked at me calmly and, without hurrying, said: “You were curious, weren't you? You know, I could teach you how to train birds. I have a gift for it... and you can't imagine what these little guys can do...”

I stood still for a moment, digesting the offer. The idea of training birds had never crossed my mind, but what impressed me most was the boy's calmness in the face of the situation. “What do you mean, training birds?” I asked, still in disbelief.

He smiled, as if expecting my question, and said: “These birds are not ordinary. They have abilities you can't even imagine. We can do much more than just 'feed' them and listen to their humming.”

I took a step back, still trying to understand what was going on. I had just discovered that this little bird, which seemed so innocent, was part of a theft scheme!

The first time, I thought it was a coincidence. A strange creature — eyes far too large, fur tousled as if combed by a whirlwind. It walked with the elegance of something that had once been royalty in another realm and stopped at my door as if demanding entry.

I drove it away. Reluctantly.

The second time, it came in as if it knew the way. It ignored me completely, sprawled over my books, stared at the ceiling as though deciphering invisible symbols. When I shooed it off, it merely yawned — as if granting me the win.

The third time was yesterday. I found it asleep on the couch, precisely where my grandmother used to nap before she disappeared from this world with her heavy silences. Next to the creature, a shirt button identical to the one I buried with her.

Today, I didn’t try to send it away. Have I adopted it?

It watches me as I write this — eyes that seem to hold ancient maps and forgotten promises. There is something in it — not threat, but purpose. As if it's not here for me, but for something I have yet to understand.

Maybe it’s waiting for me to remember something.
Maybe it is the reminder.
Or maybe… I’m the one who left, and it’s the one who stayed.

And now it wants answers.

"Why sell the pet if it wasn't yours?" she thought to herself. "Did you at least consider the owner's reaction if he found out his pet had been sold to another?" She shook her head, knowing how much she disliked cats, but even she would have thought twice before taking such action.

As she looked out at the neighborhood, she muttered, "It's just carelessness on his part, letting his cat roam free all the time. It shows how irresponsible he is as a pet owner." With a hint of malice, she decided, "When he gets home, I'll just tell him his cat got hit by a car. At least they'll have some peace and quiet for a while."

She couldn't help but wonder why the owner had chosen a cat in the first place. "Why didn't he just go for a dog?" she thought. "I just can't imagine having those scary-looking creatures living in my home." The thought of cats' sharp claws and piercing eyes made her shudder.

Recently, a tom cat has been coming to my apartment. After spending many hours there, it departs. I assume it has friends because I've noticed it playing with my cat. Similar to how I fed mine, I also had to feed it.
Because of its protective nature, the tomcat will chase away any cats that approach my cat. I chose to pay closer attention because I didn't feel at ease with it. I discovered that the cat is a jealous lover and that it dislikes having tomcats around.

This brown mischievous dog of our neighbor has a secret mission: To get my slippers outside. What's the funny thing is it will just get a piece of my sandal or shoe and have the master of hiding them in different locations. Several times, I sent it away but still comes every other day. As I reviewed the CCTV outside, it turned out that his best hiding place was under the plants. One day, as I am ready to run an errand, my new slipper doesn't have any pair. With all my energy, I keep on searching in different spots. Plant area? not there. Only to find out it is near the garbage can. I tried to chase this brown dog trying to get the other pair of my slipper. However, the straps were cut and bites all around. His tail wags as if I am happy in what he did. Clearly, his agenda was simple: slipper supremacy.

The elephant couldn't fit through the door, but wanted to come in anyway. His owners were not at home and it looked like it would take a few weeks.

It's no problem for me to have the little animal at home. But if he dares to throw his droppings in the middle of my living room, what do I do? What do I do? I don't have a giant shovel to get all that poop out of there.

Good thing the government pays to take care of the elephants. Although with the amount of stuff Fantito breaks me on a daily basis, I can't afford it. I already have three jobs and counting.

At least I have guaranteed affection. He treats me better than my wife. I think I'm going to leave her.

Better to have a big mountain of poop in the house than to suffer my wife's mistreatment.

Late afternoon on a Monday, when I got home I came across a completely unexpected creature, a beaver. That's right, folks, a beaver lying on my porch. At first, I was disoriented, I thought: will this animal attack? What should I do? I gathered up my courage, grabbed a piece of wood and chased it away from my home. I went inside, did my nighttime activities and when I woke up, I saw the same animal sleeping in the same place. What should I do? I thought about scaring it away again, but I remembered that the poor thing is also hungry. I searched the internet and prepared a meal with potatoes and vegetables soaked in water. I don't know if it will eat, but I have to go to work. This routine continued for a week, until I decided to adopt it. It seems that it has some kind of connection with me, it doesn't leave my sidewalk. Living with it was interesting, I began to develop affection and love for this animal, its actions were not normal, it seemed to know me, its affection and care did not seem normal. As the days went by, I decided donate the bed of my first pet for he, a dog named Bidu, deceased for more than 10 years. When he saw the bed, he transformed, he seemed to recognize it, he ran and jumped into it to sleep. It seemed surreal, a connection from another world. My mind was in tatters, my eyes filled with tears. I called Bidu and he seemed to answer. Could his soul have reincarnated in another living being and he came back to me? This won't leave my mind. Could he be my Bidu or just my unconscious desire for him to be? Yes, friends, that is an answer I will never have.

I thought she was joking but seemingly she wasn't, I don't even know how's that possible anyway, it just happened.

Erika was her name, yeah I know, it was a fucken dream you freak that can even speak, but her name was Erika, wasn't it? Dit you dream ot or did I? Now you let me tell the story in peace or I'll send you away for 70th time. Would you SHUT UP!!!! I don't fucken care if you allways find the way back(still don't know how you do it though, but I will). You thank god I ain't killer otherwise you'll be...
Well, as I was saying, this was a very much vivid dream, this Erika girl was someone I knew, just like movies you know? The slow camera, the beautiful soundtrack, the shot focusing both looks,...a beautiful moment, but as it always happens it all turned out wrong in the end I don't know how did that happen, i was a dream, things have no sense in dreams sometimes,... -YO SHITY FACE, COULD YOU GET OUT OF THE FRICHE AND STOP THE NOISE?- ...sorry, he keeps disturbing, anyway, seemed like a long life dream but the beautiful part turned into a nightmare quicker that an undesired in a middle of a meeting fart. The girl Erika, turned into a witch, she ws like crazy, pursuing me anywhere, making shows on front of everyone, being obsessive, didn't even sleep and I woke up shited on myself as I watched her staring at me in the middle off the night, god it was fucken freaking and I left her, but before I did that she throwed a curse on me, she said I wouldn't see her again as she was but that she was gonna returned shape shifted...I was like...your are fucken out of your mind peeing myself pf laughter and just right there I woke up and realized it was just a fucken dream or nightmare, or half each. I felt relieved it was a crazy long and non sense dream but a month after some at first sight strange but cute little animal showed up at home, just like the dream but this time was an animal, don't ask, I don't know ehat kond of animal that is, won't even describe it, it has dog stuff, but also cats, squirrel, bears, fox, penguins, rabbit, tiger and so on... but the fucken freaking thing is that it goes changing animalitties(meaning personalities in humans) and even can speak the motherfucker, just like in the dream, it was beautiful in the beginning but bow it's a nightmare, overall when any of the fiercely animalitties comes out. It chases me, haunts me, has even killed every dog or cat in the neighborhood out of jealousy. I have taken advantages of the inocent animalitties and taken it away 69 times, to 69 different, remote and fucken far away places, but nothing, he always find the way back oh I'm starting to think this is the fucken Erika girl from the dream that maybe was not a dream and she really returned shape shifted into that shity lousy annoying little freaky face over there that's bringing the friche down. May be this feak have an agenda...or maybe I'm fucken sleeping yet and this is part of the nightmare, oh, I know, I'll jump through out the balcony, it always work for waking up from a dream...
Wait...what of it's not a dream but ot is... oh...it has an agenda, it has it.

Actually this is not really a strange animal, but Very surprising because this cat is not mine. I don't have any idea who's the owner of this cat and it happens yesterday when I seated at the balcony when suddenly this cat came inside straight to the barrel and drink water. This cat looks very thirsty and might be in a long journey. I wonder who is the owner of this cat. The cat seed me but instead of running away, The cat wiggled the tail and approached me. Awe, what a cute and adorable animal. She drinks lots of water and after that, I decided to take away from house that maybe the owner already looking for the cat.

I take the cat a few meters away from our house and I runned away from the cat so it can't followed me back home. But after a few minutes, what a surprised, the cat is already backed again. I wonder why it went back again. I tried several times but still the cat went back to our house. At the end, I felt tired of doing it again that is why I decided to adopted the cat.....

Every day, a cat arrived. It was not mine. Even when my cat saw this stray cat inside my garden, my cat would get upset. He would meow loudly, so loudly that I came to think that his meowing was to let me know that this stray cat was back in my yard.
I didn't want to pay much attention to him. So I saw the cat several times sitting on its two hind legs in my garden. Always looking towards one of my bird cages. It didn't worry me as he never did anything wrong. It was just watching.
As the days went by, I became curious about his behavior. What is wrong with this cat? The times I have found him in my garden, hidden among the plants, he is always sitting and looking at the cages. I have chased him out as many times as I have found him in my garden. I don't want any surprises with a cat that I don't even like, since he gets along badly with my cat, too.
I think I should have taken more drastic precautions. One fine day, when I got up and went to feed my birds, I saw that one of them was missing, and many feathers were around. Later, I saw the stray cat that I had only seen. Now he didn't look; he went straight to the cage, climbed up quickly, and held another of my birds by the head.
Now I understood everything. The cat was coming to study the behavior of my birds. He watched as the birds stuck their heads out of the cages to drink water and eat. He was doing his calculations until he found the right moment, and he put it into practice. He took my birds.

I had no choice but to put a fence around my house. I did it with netting so that this stray cat would never return to my garden. Since then, none of my birds have disappeared.
