Anime Review: Tokyo Ghoul Root A - Ruined by Studio
Hope everyone is well. Today I am here to share with you the disappointing story of my most anticipated series. Which I had high hopes for but it left me very disappointed. The name of the anime I am talking about is Tokyo Ghoul: Root A.
As a Tokyo Ghoul fan, I went into Season 2 (Tokyo Ghoul Root A) with high expectations. The first season gave us the thrills and intense battles, all of which were a treat. But unfortunately, Route A not only failed but completely fell by the wayside.
Story
Tokyo Ghoul Root A begins when Kaneki Ken changes after being brutally tortured. The once quiet, polite boy becomes a determined and broken person. His transformation takes him down a new and dark path, joining a violent ghoul organization called Aogiri Tree.
Kaneki's decision surprises his old friends. Everyone thinks he has lost his way, but in reality, he wants to increase his strength with only one goal: to protect his loved ones.
On the other hand, the government ghoul hunting organization called the Commission of Counter Ghoul begins their biggest campaign to destroy Aogiri Tree and their base. Many familiar faces are involved in the campaign, including Touka, Hinami, Amon, Juuzou, and many more.
This season shows Kaneki's inner conflict, his silence, and his disconnection from people. His pain, sacrifice, and attempts to find himself in a strange silence create the story of this season.
At the end, there is a huge battle between the Commission of Counter Ghoul and the Aogiri Tree, where many beloved characters are lost. Kaneki fights like a lone warrior, and the final scene where he walks away with his mentor Yoshimura on his shoulders was the most profound and emotional moment of the entire season.
My Review
What I expected
The continuation of Kaneki's transformation, further exploration into the ghost world, and complex psychological struggles that challenge our morality, essentially adding to the brilliance of Season 1, but also making it deeper and darker.
What I got
Route A decided to deviate from the manga. Characters made decisions without clear motivation and Kaneki barely spoke. Instead of showing his inner conflict, they just gave him blank stares and mysterious silences.
Even fan-favorite characters felt underused or ignored. The pacing was off and the big events lacked impact because they weren't given time to breathe.
What was still good
The animation was still there with some great fight scenes. Osterreich's Munu character was incredibly beautiful. Some moments hinted at what could have been.
Tokyo Ghoul had potential for Root A but lost it by trying to reinvent the story. It was disappointing for manga readers. It was confusing for anime fans. And for me, it was a missed opportunity to grow.
Let me know on the comment did you see it. Did it disappoint you like me or you enjoy it. Thanks you so much for reading. See you next :)

I thought I was the only one who felt this way; at one point I thought I was watching a different anime even when it carried the name Tokyo Ghoul season two.
The storyline changed and the character development wasn't properly done. I love the fact that Kenki Sorry was good in the first season and I was expecting a continuation, but the third season was worth it because we saw Keneki losing his memories and working for the enemy, even fighting against the love of his life. It was somehow for me. I only enjoyed the first season to the fullest.
I also only enjoyed the first season, but I don't like it anymore. The story needed to be improved a bit. It would have been much better if it had been related to the first series. Thank you so much.
Yeah
It would have been more better and the bad part was that the third season wasn’t even related to the second
Yep that's why i didn't watch.
This is a new anime for me since this anime has a second season so I will have to watch it after watching the first season then I will understand how this anime was actually made but according to the trailer of this anime and the type of your writing it seems that this anime is great but they have made the anime a little worse by adding some extras in it I will definitely try to watch it here if I have time thanks for posting such a nice thing
Of course, I hope you like the first season.
Yeah I really enjoy first season ☺️
Good review.
I particularly like that character in the first image, she has a sinister artwork
Yep! i also thought so. Thank you so much.
