If My Child Had My Traits, Would They Be Exceptional?

Children are often seen as the pride of their parents, a reflection of their upbringing, values, and even personality. Every parent dreams of raising children who will grow up to be exceptional, setting good examples in society, and making a positive impact. But have you ever paused to think: if your child inherits your traits, would they stand out for the right reasons?

Hello amazing readers, it's a good day to talk about this topic as we expand our knowledge day by day. In this post, I will share with you and help you reflect on the qualities I would love my children to inherit from me. At the end of the blog, you can join me in a conversation in the comment section and let's discuss some of the things you found interesting in what I said.

If you had the opportunity to handpick their traits, behaviors, and even their physical and genetic makeup, what would you choose? Let's dive into this thoughtful and exciting conversation.

Growing up as a kid, I gave my mom a lot of trouble because I was a stubborn child and the bitter truth was that her training method made me more stubborn. At any little thing, I was getting the belt or being yelled at but I kept asking myself, was I really stubborn or was it learned?

There were some traits or characters I exhibited while growing up I wouldn't want to see them in my child or children. Growing up has made me reflect on most of my actions, which has now made me a better person. Can a person be a better person right from their childhood? Yes, I believe so, and this is why we are talking about this topic.

Every parent dreams of raising a child who shines in society, one who is kind, wise, confident, and a positive influence on others. I would like to raise children like this, but do I have this trait? Yes.

I often think about the kind of child I’d love to raise. If I had the power to select my child’s genetic and behavioral traits, I’d like to choose values from myself and those of my wife, too, and that's because I grew up with some traits I wouldn't want to see in my kids. I will choose traits like kindness, resilience, integrity, smartness, honesty, boldness, and emotional intelligence. These are some of the trait I would like to see in my child.

Physically, I hope they carry my healthy genes so I don't fall sick. My handsome face, my eyes, my smile, my hair growth, and my height because I am very tall. I want a child who is thoughtful like myself and doesn't wait for a push before they take the initiative to do things.

I have been proactive since I was a child, and I would want my child to be like that too.

No one is perfect, which means if I give them all of my good traits, how will they learn from mistakes? Yes, I have made some bad decisions and good decisions, which have made me the better version of myself.

If I have a child right now that is a perfect reflection of myself, the truth is that I wouldn't be happy because I am pushing to be a better version of myself. So, answer me this question: if your child were a reflection of you, what kind of person would they be?

Thanks for reading. My name is Fashtioluwa.

I think children should be allowed to make mistakes, even huge ones and face consequences so they learn to be better people. Yes, a child can be good from the start, but it doesn't mean it's built on strong foundation if they're not allowed to explore. Right?

Hmmm
I think you’re right, some children with good trait still make wrong decision and this help them become a better person

Yeah?

More than how they look, these traits you mentioned are more important for our kids to have. Life will be easier and fun for them. Hopefully, we would have kids that will change the narratives in the future.

As much as we want our children to have nothing but the best, it is also to their advantage that they have a few weaknesses so that they can learn too

Yeah, I read in a place that if you find a person that is looking all perfect, then the person is hiding something dire the world shouldn't know.

Hmmm, this topic is a broad one and I can tell that it will be a controversial topic but nonetheless, all you have said is very on point.

No parent prays for their kids to exhibit their kind of lifestyle when they were little. Some parents turn into control freaks, doing everything they can to keep their children from certain mistakes or challenges.

And most of the time, parent that turn themselve into control freak always end up ruining the life of the child.

The best we can do as parent is to keep correcting them and showing them the right way

That stubborn part got me laughing though...many kids had that, especially being a male, don't know why. I agree with you that the children should be allowed to learn things on their own and grow into the best version of themselves too. Honestly, it wouldn't be totally helpful passing all our traits to our children. And you've got some nice traits.

My parents were like this too growing up, any small misbehaviour you are getting punished and no two ways about that.

Wow...I see sincerity in this statement fash. None of us is perfect, but we will keep working towards being better
My prayer is that my kids remain better than me in all aspects
