Still alive - my 24 hour terrible flu and back on the grind for fund raising

avatar

I had a extremely taxing last 24 hours, but I am still alive!

So my son Meren was sick who made my wife Claire sick and then it came to me. It came to me extremely suddenly. Thursday night I felt a little swelling at the back of my throat. Then by Friday morning, I was sick as a dog!

This WOULD happen on a day I was set to have an important meeting on the site where we are working and I am in charge of. A site where there is a LOSS in the project because above me have meetings without me and quote and plan without me without my input and then there are oversights I could have helped avoid.

So I muscled my way to site and propped myself up as well as I could, got the guys on site working after 8:00AM and helped them get organised and the work flowing and worked with them (sweating and all) till around 10:30AM.

The director of our company was coming to site as well as the other member/co-owner. These are the engineer and the technical specialist that does the quotations that I am cross about.

I am the Project Manager and Health and Safety Officer of the company and I do have to be involved in these things so I can help plan the jobs.

So we walk through the site a bit before the Engineering Consultant came to site.

She arrived at 11:30AM and we walked and talked and investigated and walked and walked till about 2:30PM. By this time I really felt like porridge. I got myself some meds and took a break. I still needed to field calls back and forth from the office as well as organise things for our staff on site. By this time my bosses were gone.

But I was happy that I had managed to influence the meeting and state what it was that we would need to make things work.

We would finish up on site at 4:00PM anyway so what is the point of me "going home early"? So I stayed on, despite what I felt like and pushed till the end.

The environment is dusty and full of building/drywall grit and fiberglass fibers from the ducting that we are removing.

So we finish. I go home. I shower.

I still feel like absolute DOG SH*T, but we need to drop off each of our three children at different locations and we are going away for the weekend.

So I calmly packed the car, drove the kids to their respective places and by this time it was dark out. Then we started the one-and-a-half (two hours including the drop offs) drive to Fisherhaven, close to Hermanus.

Unfortunately, the scenic drive was done in the dark. Up and down mountain passes, through heavy mist. A lot of the roads are unlit so you have to make do with your headlights. Brights on where there is no oncoming traffic. Brights off when there is traffic on its way.

Finally, get to our destination and unpack our luggage.

What then ensues was the usual thing in South Africa - Braai... which involves smoke. By this time my nose and throat decided to seize up. I was given plenty other medication and I popped a bunch of these and eventually excused myself and went to bed.

My wife joined me later and we slept through to this morning.

I felt a LOT better getting up and I chatted a bit with the host and one of the other guests of the weekend.

I can feel it clogging up again so I will finish this post and go grab some more Sinucons!

Right... so I am back on my PC for a but here at the folks where we are staying for the weekend. I am going to try write and Schedule some posts.

Because it is rather important: I need to RAISE FUNDS!

Fund Raising

As mentioned in this post: Collecting funds for a good cause. 29.41% of the way there!

I am collecting funds for a sick person who has cancer. They are selling their collection of stuff to me but I am also selling the units that I can to other people to make up the money needed to make it happen.

He want to be able to pay for his treatment and for his hobby stuff not to be all over the place should he not make it.

In short, he does not want to be a burden on his mother and sister. I will do everything I can to make that happen. His health is very bad. He cannot work and he cannot always even communicate on Whatsapp.

I am also collecting donations!

I still need to get through my notifications list. I hope there are some more donations there and then I shall make some updates and put some interim goals up for all to see... Also I am going to write, blog and create content like a beast!

Forgive me if I seem like I am posting a little TOO much. I am trying to raise the funds however I can. Even if it means putting in some extra work!

The total target is around $800 (R15,000 South African Rands) and we are about 29 or 30% of the way there. Every bit counts. Even if you just donate $1, it makes a huge impact!

Thank you for your time!

I shall see you on the blockchain!

Cheers!

Awww, sorry to hear about your jaw! I hope that gets better fast! !LUV

There is a government system but the waiting lists are always very long. If you want it free, you need to wait. Cancer does not however wait.

It is indeterminate how much time he has left. 😔
