Weekend-Engagement WEEK #166: death and its perspective

I hope you are having a great weekend, this time I am joining one of the community topics, a bit deep but it makes me reflect on my life and all that I am grateful for. If you were to die today, would you die knowing you lived your best life or not?

"Only when we truly know and understand that we have a limited time on earth, and that we have no way of knowing when our time is up, then we will begin to live each day to the fullest, as if it were the only one we have." Elisabeth Kubler-Ross

Based on this quote, death is a complicated subject from different points of view, as we grow up we see so many people close to us die that why deny it, I have been afraid to realize that life is a moment and many times we do not enjoy it.

I remember one night, during a medical internship, I was in the emergency room when a lady came to us with a cardiac arrest, everything was so fast, between looking for the first aid cart, doing CPR, there was not much that could be done... she died. It was the first time I saw someone die in front of my eyes, I kept thinking that a few hours ago she was with her family, maybe cooking them something delicious or painting her nails (she had them very beautiful) and now in a matter of minutes she gave her last breath.

That same night I saw a mother saying goodbye to her 14 year old son in tears and screams, a heartbreaking moment that as health personnel is difficult to go through... that day I was reflecting on how ephemeral life is. We spend our time complaining about everything, not knowing that we are fortunate to be alive, to have wonderful people around us.

I don't fear death, I fear not doing everything I have planned for my life, I fear the pain I know my loved ones may feel. But if the time comes for me to leave, I would say YES, I lived a full and wonderful life with as much or as little as I may have had. Happy to finish my college career, to have parents who gave everything for me, instilled in me values and principles. Grateful that God put in my path wonderful people who became part of my family.

It is true that perhaps I have not been able to achieve other goals that I would have liked, but I can not complain, these 29 years I have had pleasant experiences and others not so much, but in the end necessary to grow as a person and appreciate the small and big moments lived.

Life is a little while and it can end in a breath, but I am sure that there is something beyond death, where our favorite people are waiting for us, those who are and will continue to be in our hearts.
