CineTV Contest: Ghost Busters (1984)

What is the first thing that crosses your mind when vintage technology is mentioned? For me in particular, it takes me back to the time of that telephone that used a wheel to dial numbers, to the outlandish computers with a big ass monitor; to cassettes, among others. With this in mind, it helped me to select the movie I want to share with you for the contest CineTv, since, at first I had a mental block, but then I remembered many, among them the popular Ghostbusters.

Film produced for the year 1984, of supernatural genre and horror comedy, under the direction of Ivan Reitman, starring Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd, among others. Film that broke success at the box office, registering as the highest grossing comedy of the time, with a song that became popular to this day, called "GhostBusters" by Ray Parker Jr. Although I was not born for the time, it was so famous that they continued transmitting it for decades, being one of my father's favorites, repeating it so many times, that I ended up liking it.
The plot tells us about three doctors of Parapsychology (Studies of psychic phenomena and other paranormal claims) who become unemployed, subsequently forming the Ghostbusters company, dedicated to clearing ectoplasms from New York City. The amount of ghostly increase will become greater and greater, making it a harbinger of something bigger and more dangerous to come.
If they could name one or more iconic objects of that tape, it would undoubtedly be the Ectomobile, Cadillac Miller-Meteor Weston Park Transport show; the PKE Meter and the backpacks that launch rays, known as proton backpacks. Many other technological objects of which were adapted to perform other functions, contrary to the original ones, but that do not leave that avant-garde structure of the moment.
A classic movie, with iconic elements that made it stand out, maybe today's generation will find it with a weak script and monotonous plots, but I don't want to imagine the impact it had for the generation of that time, with very good special effects for the time and memorable and charismatic performances.
Among its epic scenes, without a doubt, the one I would choose would be the appearance of Mr. Marshmallow to the city, where our beloved Ghostbusters gather the courage to defeat him, in the coolest way. The choice of actors I feel was the best, they managed to connect with both their character and their audience, remembered with nostalgia for a long time. We can't forget to mention the logo that, in short, makes a great impact and well marked, because when you see it you think of that movie, a very popular reference.
The 80's framed by the rise of the science fiction and adventure genre, pigeonholed in the term blockbuster, which means when a movie turns out to be a success at the box office, grossing millions of dollars, where Ghostbusters definitely falls into that category. Who are you going to call? Ghostbusters!

¿Qué es lo primero que se te cruza en la mente cuando te mencionan tecnología vintage? En lo particular, a mí me hace retroceder a la época de ese teléfono que para marcar los números era con una rueda, a las computadoras estrambóticas con un monitor de trasero grande; a los cassettes, entre otros. Con esto en mente, me ayudo a seleccionar la película que les quiero compartir para el concurso de CineTv, ya que, al principio tuve como un bloqueo mental, pero luego recordé muchas y entre ellas la popular Los Cazafantasmas.

Película producida para el año 1984, de género sobrenatural y comedia de horror, bajo la dirección de Ivan Reitman, protagonizada por Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd, entre otros. Filme que rompió éxito en taquilla, registrándose como la comedia más taquillera de la época, con una canción que se popularizo hasta los momentos, llamada “GhostBusters” de Ray Parker Jr. Aunque no haya nacido para la época, fue tan famosa que la siguieron transmitiendo por décadas, siendo una de las favoritas de mi padre, repitiéndola tantas veces, que me terminó gustando.
La trama nos relata sobre tres doctores en Parapsicología (Estudios de fenómenos psíquicos y otras afirmaciones paranormales) quienes quedan desempleado, formando posteriormente la empresa de los Caza Fantasmas, dedicada a limpiar los ectoplasmas de la ciudad de Nueva York. La cantidad de aumento fantasmal será cada vez más grande, convirtiéndola en un presagio de que algo más grande y peligroso se avecina.
Si pudieran nombrar uno o más objetos icónicos de dicha cinta, sería indudablemente el Ectomóvil, Cadillac Miller-Meteor Weston Park Transport show; el Medidor PKE y las mochilas lanzan rayos, conocidas como mochilas protones. Muchos otros objetos tecnológicos de los cuales fueron adaptados para realizar otras funciones, contrarias a las originales, pero que no dejan esa estructura vanguardista del momento.
Una película clásica, con elementos icónicos que la hicieron destacar, puede que la generación de ahora la encuentre con un guion flojo y argumentos monótonos, pero no me quiero imaginar el impacto que tuvo para la generación de ese entonces, con efectos especiales muy bueno para la época y actuaciones memorables y carismáticas.
Entre sus escenas épicas, sin duda, la que escogería seria la aparición de Mr. Marshmallow a la ciudad, donde nuestros queridos Cazafantasmas se arman de valor para derrotarlo, de la forma más genial. La elección de actores siento que fue la mejor, lograron conectar tanto con su personaje como su público, recordados con nostalgia por un largo tiempo. No se puede olvidar de mencionar del logo que, en definitiva, causa un gran impacto y bien marcado, pues ya al verlo se te viene a la mente dicha película, una referencia bastante popular.
Los 80 enmarcados por el auge del género de ciencia ficción y de aventuras, encasillándose en el término de blockbuster, que significa cuando una película resulta ser todo un éxito en taquilla, recaudando millones de dólares, donde definitivamente Los Caza Fantasmas entra en dicha categoría. ¿A quién vas a llamar? ¡A los Cazafantasmas!
