CCC's Street Art Contest #187 - "Bob Marley" , Odeith, Quinta do Mocho, Lisboa, Portugal

Good morning, friends!

Welcome to another post in the Street Art community!

Bob Marley is an internationally recognized musical artist. Even though he died in May 1981, he is one of the most iconic artists on the world reggae scene. A driving force behind this style, and a standard-bearer for various causes and opinions. Often associated with cannabis consumption, his importance goes far beyond that small direct connection we all make.
The spread of Jamaican music, culture and spirituality has elevated him to a status rarely achieved by any artist.

Just this week, a film in honor of Bob Marley premiered in Portugal. And since this week was the week of the Oscars, what better than a piece that combines several performing arts into one?

Now I'm going to tell you a bit about the artist who designed, planned and executed this work of art. His name is Sérgio "Odeith". Born in 1976 in Damaia, a suburb of Lisbon, he made a name for himself in the street art and graffiti scene from an early age. He started graffiti at the age of 14, in 1980, and at that time he was only leaving his mark on the walls of his neighborhood, which was little more than a tag or a scribble. Having reinvented himself with the influence of various artists from the Carcavelos region, he continued his passion, spreading his mark along the Sintra line, including at stations and on trains (where I often traveled at the time).

Although he left school early, at the age of 15, his self-determination and capacity for self-learning, with a strong component of resilience and determination, ended up developing his true passion. From his brief foray into the world of tattoos, in 2003 the hitherto self-styled "Eith" was renamed "Odeith", having achieved recognition for his original anamorphosis technique. His compositions, which always give a three-dimensional perspective, often using 90º corners or cement blocks, captivate those who observe and those who pass in front of his works. This highlighting of a true graffiti niche has even led him to be called "Somber 3D".

His works are scattered throughout abandoned buildings and interior rooms, spreading magic in a unique way. I invite you to take a look at this artist's portfolio at the links I'm sharing here.

He left tattooing for good in 2008 when he closed his establishment, which had been open since 1999, leaving him free to move to London. Now living in Lisbon, Odeith focuses exclusively on studio work and his magnificent murals, one of the most emblematic and internationally recognized of which I share here.
