Good evening, friends!

Welcome to another post in the Street Art community!

Welcome to another post in the Street Art community, for the CCC's Street Art Contest #179!

I'd like to share with you another fantastic piece of work made at the Muro 21 festival, (LINKS TO PREVIOUS POSTS), which took place in the Oriente area of Lisbon, in April 2021.

Today's piece could only be an ode to color and diversity. Its authors, a project from Porto by six artists with different characteristics and gifts, known as "Colectivo RUA". This group, made up of Contra, Draw, Fedor, Oker, The Carver and Third, reached its maximum exponent when they created their largest intervention ever as a collective project.

Titled "Atlas, Mostra Alto o Mundo no seu Ombro" (Atlas, Show the World on Your Shoulder), the work brings together the most fantastic things we could think of... from a snake charmer, to an elephant, sunflowers, and even a hyper-realistic collection of stickers from all over the world (representing the different world cultures and ethnicities).

The work, a veritable ballet and a fantastic choreography that swings between hyperrealism and cartooning, manages to merge the ideas in a project that captures the attention of anyone who passes through that street in the Casal dos Machados neighborhood.

Another façade of a building in the Casal dos Machados neighborhood, covered from top to bottom! Take a look at the street lamp to get an idea of the scale of the work. Unfortunately, there was no one passing by to include it in the photo to make a nice caliper.

Originality, eccentricity and diversity fit like a glove in this work... it couldn't have a more evocative title

20231122_091552.jpg

At first glance, it seems like a somewhat schizophrenic collection of ideas and images, but multiculturalism, universality and broadness are more than mirrored in the work

The simple graphic elements serve as a cement to connect all the elements, almost reminiscent of a high school student's notebook... I remember in 1990-1994 it was fashionable to cut images out of magazines and paste them into black notebooks, which we then lined with sticky paper. Who did the same?

20231122_091552-crop2.jpg

From strong strokes and thick lines to the detail of a face, this work offers the viewer a myriad of sensations

20231122_091557.jpg

It was a particularly sunny morning, and this façade of the building, as you can see from the photos, was half in the shade, which made it difficult for me to get the composition and saturation right.
I hope I've managed to correct some of that with the subsequent editing

The elephant is a very striking element. I don't know if it's because of its folkloric symbolism, its memory and its ancestry, or if it's because I like it... I've always liked elephants, their calmness and passivity... up to a certain point! I think I have something in common with them!

20231122_091614.jpg

There's something about the choice of these World Geeks that takes me back to the 1990s-2000s when Wrestling was a sport with millions of followers. I confess that it was never something that won me over, either then or now

20231122_091626.jpg
For me, the sunflowers and the elephant are two of the most striking elements of the work, in addition to the hyperrealistic stickers

The signature of the "Colectivo RUA" cooperation, being pulled by a train...
perhaps the train of the imagination, where we were all invited to get on and travel!

Good morning, @littlebee4

Thank you for your comment and appreciation! The only issue in photographing this piece was the extreme light differences between areas... I have to go back there, to appreciate it with less contrasting light conditions!

Have a great week! 🤗

Morning @xrayman 👋🏻😊
You are welcome.
Yes, that is sometimes hard when the light is wrong. Capturing it can be challenge.
Do go back one day when the light is better. You will see so much more 😎

Have a great day and week!
Thanks a lot.
