CCC's Street Art Contest #170 - Pelicans - Big Trash Animals, Lisbon, Portugal
Welcome to my sharing today here in the Street Art community!
Today the piece of art I'm publishing here was conceived and realized by one of Portugal's best-known visual artists.
His name is Artur Bordalo, but he goes by Bordalo Segundo or Bordalo II in honor of his grandfather, the famous painter and ceramist Artur Real Bordalo.
Bordalo II began expressing his art through graffiti at the age of 11. Although he attended the Plastic Expression Course at the Lisbon Institute of Fine Arts, he never completed it.
He considers himself an activist, and became eminent when he routinely, and almost exclusively, used garbage to create his sui generis works. That's right, you read that right: garbage! What others reject is used by Bordalo II to give shape, color and texture to his impressive pieces of art that literally "jump" off the walls!
Anyone who has visited Lisbon or Cascais will have come across one or more of his pieces. This one is located on the corner of Rua de Santa Justa and Rua do Carmo, and measures approximately 5 x 5 meters!
It's impossible not to be amazed when you turn the corner and suddenly there are two pelicans that bring you to admire what would previously have been just a blank wall. The work, commissioned by Associação Mutualista Montepio, which has the pelican as its logo, has been greeting passers-by since March 25, 2020!

Always cool to see a work done Bordalo. I'm so happy now there is one of his work close to my home in Montreal. Very talented artist. Thanks for sharing these pics on The StreetArt Community.
