The Anime Realm Contest #2: Jigen Daisuke Live Action - Review

source Edited with Paint

In this post, I will share an anime, specifically an anime live-action, from one of the most iconic characters who has been known for a long time because he was one of the coolest sidekicks of his time and is still relevant today. I hope you like my review this time because I will package it differently from previous posts, and this will be my first time reviewing anime live-action from a legendary anime.

A few days ago, I watched Live Action from one of the iconic anime characters called Jigen Daisuke, this is a Live Action film that I never thought would be worked on seriously by Amazon Studios and TMS Entertainment because the last time I knew about Live Action Lupin The 3rd was released almost 9 years ago and I never imagined that Lupine's friend, Jigen Daisuke, would have his own live-action story, I was amazed and didn't expect it to be as good as this in all aspects.

The story of this film is about an adventurer who is known as a skilled shooter, Jigen Daisuke, and Lupin's friend who experiences problems with the accuracy of his weapon. He had traveled to many places while trying to find out what was wrong with his weapon, Jigen Daisuke was advised to return to Japan and look for someone named Chiharu Yaguchi, a weapons repair expert. When Jigen arrived in Japan, various problems arose which he had to solve alone without the help of Lupin or other close friends.

At first glance, I saw that Jigen Daisuke's character in this film was very cool, the clothes he wore had their characteristics from what I saw. A black suit with a monochrome shirt, fedora hat, and Chelsea boots is Jigen Daisuke's authentic style, and I like him even though he doesn't wear a tie like in the Live Action film Lupin The 3rd. This film tells a story that is quite light but heavy at the same time. At first, I thought there would be a lot of action with comedy flavor that was presented, but it turned out I was wrong. The story progresses rather slowly when it is shown how Jigen Daisuke's calm attitude faces every obstacle in front of him, not to mention that he has to save an innocent child.

The shooting scene is the main feature brought by this Live Action where we are shown the abilities of the legend Jigen Daisuke with his Combat Magnum weapon and a cigarette that he never forgets, giving an identity and charisma that is different from other anime characters.

In my opinion, Chiharu's grandmother's role is very suitable in terms of facial expressions, and her expression of an illegal weapons maker who repents and then becomes a clock repairman made me amazed and moved when the middle-aged woman asked Jigen Daisuke to help a small child whose blood was about to be taken. Then the villain character in this film also made me wonder when it was first shown, the figure of a woman who was in a wheelchair and only had one leg managed to kill all the Yakuza members alone with just one gun.

Another aspect of this film that I am amazed at is the shooting, angles, color grading, and other cinematic processes that I think are epic, and I can say that it can be compared to John Wick but in the Japanese version. Jigen's character, who is considered a sniper legend, in this film shows his human side, that even though he is famous and has extraordinary skills in shooting, he can also lose and be injured, when he was hit by a knife from the man with a thousand faces, called Kawashima.

This film also made me emotional when the flashback to the past of Oto, the girl who was saved by Jigen, felt so dark and sad at the same time. Even though the storyline at the beginning felt slow, I slowly started to enjoy it like other films where Jigen Daisuke is an ordinary human being who also needs help from other people in dealing with bad situations.

I recommend this film for those of you who want to spend the New Year holidays by watching live-action from one of the characters in the legendary anime which is a little different from other live-action adaptations. For fans of shooting and action films with scenes that are not too exaggerated, this Live Action Jigen Daisuke might be suitable.

Everything I write in this post is purely my opinion after watching it, so if you don't want to get spoilers, you can watch it first, then come back to this post so we can discuss Jigen Daisuke, and if there are any words that I don't understand or are confusing in my writing. You can give suggestions in the comments column below.

This live action about this anime staff you mention looks very well done. I really hadn't heard of this anime before, let alone Jigen. It seems to be quite a training story and person, worth a look at least.

Thanks for sharing and the recommendation. I hope you are having a Merry Christmas and that next year will be better.

Regards.

I will watch this! Thanks for the recommendation man. It makes me excited to know some sweet side of Jigen as I idolized him as a young kid. He is such a cool guy compared to Goemon, who is stoic and nonchalant.

Wow I didn’t know he got his own LA film! The MC really is so similar to him in style! This seems nice so I’ll probably be adding it to my list. Thanks for sharing!
