LOH CONTEST 180:IMPORTANCE OF HAVING MY OWN GARDEN

(Edited)

Happy new week all.

I grew up in a home where everything single thing was bought from the market and stored in the refrigerator. We buy vegetables and store in the fridge against the following day, even fruits was bought and stored in the fridge.

My mom is a farmer by occupation while my dad is a fisherman, but I never had to do any farming because I didn't grow at home and there was nothing like farming in Lagos( the area I grew up in).

I never knew anything about agriculture or farming till I met my husband. He teaches me different things about farming although we don't have a piece of land of our own. So from him I learnt about planting different fruits and how long each fruit take to mature, it's also from him I knew we have different species of cassava and there is one that you eat like yam.

Currently, I am at ibadan for the holiday but where I base in Ondo state I have a small space where I planted cassava and some vegetables like green and ugwu (my husband actually did the planting, I was just watching him and learning). I was actually happy when we saw the small space and planted on it, I was even more happy when I saw the vegetables had started germinating.

I do not have a garden or farm of my own but when I do I will plant cassava, fruits, pepper, vegetables. Also rear fowl, goat and rabbit for meat. Having your own garden is really nice and it will help you to save money, on my garden I can easily get some things I need to cook if I need them urgently.

I hope that you will one day have a place to grow your own produce since you now have some skills and motivation for that. It is satisfying producing results with your own hands @vickiee.
