LEOSHOP: A place to Buy & Sell Digital Products and Services

I've been lurking around @LeoFinance from March 2020 when it move to Hive and the only thing that has kept me around for these years and more is the visionary drive and resolve to provide sustainable and amazing crypto-finance solutions. One of the beautiful crypto-finance services/solutions that the LeoFinance team envisage was LeoShop, a decentralized ecommerce platform.

In January 2020, Leoshop V1 was created and accessible at https://steemleo.com/leoshop (no longer available) and it served for a reasonable number of weeks until the Steem hostile takeover by Justin Sun which led to the movement of SteemLeo to Hive and consequent adoption of a neutral identity - "LeoFinance". There emerged other highly demanding crypro-finance services which LeoFinance had to attend to and the concept of LeoShop was however suspended.

With the wave of current developments and new creations within the LeoFinance ecosystem, I decided to remind us of the lofty idea about LeoShoop and how it is still very powerful and able to change the narrative in eCommerce. Below was the motivation for the creation of LeoShop.

When we set out to create Leoshop, it was a simple idea. To allow users to upload digital downloads and sell them in exchange for LEO.
In the process of building Leoshop, we realized that it could be a whole lot more than that. Out of the box, we could offer users the ability to choose to pay with either STEEM/SBD or LEO. source

A careful look at the long-term value proposition for LeoShop shows LeoFinance's undaunted crave for sustainable crypto services and crypto-finance solutions. It was already enshrined in the mission of the LeoShop creation to help authors make money beyond their posts to helping them sell their private online courses, training groups and digital products like Ebooks.

Each time I'll say that a LeoFinance creator like @taskmaster4450le has depth of understand in economics and technology and the the unfolding future and how it can be harnessed, as such, setting up a e-course on the economics of technology would be a good digital product that'll sell with LEO or HIVE. Other users like @finguru, @jk6276 and @hitmeasap have shown their prowess and deep understanding of SEO and I am sure there are many other users with myself who will be willing to pay some bucks in LEO, HIVE , HBD to take a course in SEO. How about @Belemo? His strides in Splinterlands could make a solid Ebook sale if compiled. Just a few to mention.

There are professionals here on Hive who will be willing to package their expertise in a text, audio or video formats for an outright sale to another user in need or perhaps ask them to enroll in an online course. I believe LeoShop dynamics has a lot to do with allowing that "digital buyer-seller relationship" to thrive while helping users with amazing skills earn more value from their skills.

The need for more Decentralized eCommerce Solutions

According to Kevin-indig, the internet, over the past 40 years, has moved through three waves of evolution viz: search engines (Yahoo, Altavista, Google & co), eCommerce (Amazon and eBay), socialmedia (Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, & co), followed by the current wave decentralization of e-commerce.

Thanks to Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) Marketplaces that have been developed on blockchains as a form of digitization of real products and defining a whole new face of currency. NFT markets have provides a competitive advantage in their capacity to tokenize products sold online, combined with their improved security in protecting consumers from fraud, and this becomes an attraction to stakeholders.

image.png

The subject of NFTs will remain a complex phenomenon to non-techies and therefore the need to replicate centralized ecommerce solutions in a decentralized way. We need to create decentralized systems that look very close to existing centralized counterparts for ease of adoption. This is the argument that would make LEOSHOP a selling product from the coffers of LeoFinance. Thanks to Hivelist store created by @Thelogicaldude and the successes so far registered. However, we need more of these systems to be able to create a huge impression in the cryptoverse.

Who else needs this Decentralized ecommerce Solution from LeoFinance? Let's share thoughts in the comments section.

I think you are totally right and I really like the idea of buying/selling stuff. After all, I am a freelancer at heart, who started out by selling stuff.

That being said, I have written and sold ebooks, services and products in the past but I am not likely to sell any of my content or knowledge like this.

I love to share my ideas, experience and my knowledge with others, especially like-minded individuals, but I do that for free and without thoughts of how much I should- or could be paid for it. If someone like the things I do, I am satisfied with being rewarded with an upvote that turns into something at the end of the day.

It's easy to make transfers between accounts, so I wouldn't mind someone sending me a "donation" if they ever wanted too, but I don't think that I will ever put a price tag on my content or knowledge on Hive or its communitites. It's up to others to decide what my content is worth.

That is true but it might be terrific for musicians and others who have courses on different things. Setting up a shop is a great idea and a way to expand the Hive economy.

Setting up a shop is a great idea and a way to expand the Hive economy.

Definitely, which is why I love the idea. I just don't think that it's for me in the sense of being a seller so to speak. I do believe that we all would benefit by expanding the economy though.

Really. A blockchain like Hive is in dire need of this and I believe with the patronage of the LeoFinance community, it would get bigger.

While I clearly understand your standpoint, but everyone who understands the true value of knowledge would agree that no price tag on it can truly be worthy. Getting direct donations is beautiful as well as getting upvotes, but there is a special way to treasure that "downloadable digital content or shipped product" when we paid for it and have it safely kept in our archive.

Your posts as informative as can be only exists in your blog and would be seen by users who find it on their feed except for those who know what you can offer and would deliberately come for it. It's a different game for an established market. Some times we go to the market with an Intention to get a particular product but ended up forgoing it for another product of superior value we saw while walking through the market.

We most definitely need commerce on both Leofinance and Hive. This is where we can start to build in more utility, especially for HBD. People need to start accepting that token as payment. It is something that will help to add value at many layers of the system.

The problem is getting people to actually use the services that are out there.

One thing that is needed are stores for different geographic locations. With shipping being what it is, that is one huge issue with selling physical items in a global market. We are finding this out with the Hivelist store. The amount of fluctuations in shipping costs make it difficult.

Then there is the subject that people just don't want to spend their crypto, or they are going for things like NFTs and such. Which we are working to bring to the physical side as well.

The Hivelist store gives people a way to also showcase NFTs in different markets they may want to sell, but again, the feature is not being utilized, neither is the actual NFT marketplace that we paid to have set up. So we are trying to figure out the right direction as well at this point, because after 2 years of being open for business, it's honestly been pretty grim.

Seems like people are sticking to the mainstream centralized platforms for e-commerce.

Proper marketing solves this.

I believe that with the more users coming to Hive via HBD, Hivelist store will find acceptance.

Seems like people are sticking to the mainstream centralized platforms for e-commerce.

When decentralized solutions creates superior values, on the long run, patronage will grow. We just have to show the edge we have but being careful not to make the systems complex.

Yes. The stability of HBD would make more sense when it can be used as a purchasing power for tangible utilities.

It gets on better as pHBD will bring more believers to Hive.
