Handing out resumes at the job fair

This Saturday has been a real experience for me, I went to a job fair for the first time. What is it about? It's an event where companies get together and announce the vacancies they have for unemployed people (or those who just want to change jobs) to go and leave their resumes.

The event started at 9:30 am, I was very confident that it was going to be a very relaxed thing and that it was not going to take less than an hour, but to my surprise, it was not. To get in you had to wait in line for several blocks, not to mention that you have to endure a scorching sun. People were chatting and drinking chicha de arroz to pass the weirdness. Some mothers had no one to leave their children with so they took them with them.

The job fair was organized by the Mayor's Office of the municipality of San Diego, Carabobo State, Venezuela, this was the 8th edition where more than 25 companies participated in the different branches of production such as agriculture, consulting, telecommunications, liquor vending, gastronomic arts, and supermarkets.

There was so much to choose from, depending on your skills. I went in hoping to get a job in the administrative area, walked in with 20 copies of my resume, and walked out with none of them. You could also submit your resume only digitally, but it was preferable to bring it both ways.

There were a lot of people from different municipalities of the city. I had to move around because the crowd of people did not allow me to move around and send my resume digitally with tranquility. I visited all the stands of the companies I could, the most visited were those of transnational companies such as Coca-Cola and Heinz; of course, I put my resume in all of them.

The place was crazy, although there was a lot of organization by the employees of the Mayor's Office, the way they organized the people so that everyone could enter the event was exceptional, it was not tedious at all and the people collaborated with their patience and education. I was also very pleased that the event was not only in person but via the Internet. I found out yesterday that the following two days the event was going to continue, but only via the web. That was a relief for me since I could finish sending my resume to those companies that I could not get.

The initiative was very good, a good opportunity for unemployed people like me who are looking to broaden their horizons in the labor field. I am grateful to the Mayor's Office of the Municipality of San Diego for the organization and for making this possible, by inviting so many companies and making them close to the unemployed people.

Thanks for reading...

If it is good that they do these initiatives, there are too many unemployed people.
