Feathered Friends - Show Me A Photo Contest Round 135 ~ little bird long beak

With this week's #SMaP being beak/bill I thought of these little flying speed demons.
Hummingbirds, who doesn't like to see these birds do their thing? Having a feeder hung on our front porch brings them in by the handfuls and allows the photographer the opportunity to capture some great pictures, once they land. If you look really close you can see this hummingbird's long tongue sticking out of its beak.

Every year we identify the Bully of the group who always chases other birds away from the feeder. About 20 feet from the feeder there's a large blueberry bush that the bully will stay perched in, waiting to buzz an intruder. Not too often do we see more than one Hummingbird at the feeder at a time. With the bully either sleeping or away from its post, these three little guys seem to be getting along just fine.

During the summer we need to fill the feeder with that sweet nectar at least once a week.

The migratory journeys these little fellows make twice a year always amaze me. Their expedition covers thousands of miles every year. The trip necessitates immense preparation and an incredible amount of energy for the smallest bird in the world to complete this arduous journey.

@melinda010100, @barbara-orenya, and @nelinovia, continue to keep the #featheredfriends community so much fun to participate in, thanks gals.

What a delightful little creature! I love hummingbirds - and in our homesteading case, sunbirds. Such beautiful little birds. Your feeder is a wonderful idea

The feeder sure does attract the hummingbirds. We also have many different potted flowers on our deck, and they are constantly going back and forth from feeder to flower. From your reply it sounds like your name for hummingbirds are sunbirds.
They sure are a neat bird!

They sure are. We have several different types of hummingbirds that visit our feeder.

Aww, it must be real joy to have them hummingbirds buzzing around. When I think about the distances the birds cover during migration, this is really a long journey, especially for such a small bird.

They are so much fun to observe. While sitting on the front porch sometimes they will buzz by us and pass within inches of our head. With the feeder just feet from the deck and with all of the potted flowers @farm-mom has on the deck, they are constantly flying around within eyesight.

The journey they make is incredible.

Whenever I go to photograph birds like this myself, most of the time they fly away and I can't take pictures. This bird looks so beautiful.

These little guys are fun to watch as they chase each other around. Sometimes they will land on the feeder and that's the only time it's possible to snap a picture of them.

I love that you can see some individual character thanks to your feeder bringing them close. Do you know if your ‘bully’ is the same species as the others?

The feeder is less than 10 feet away from where we sit on the front porch so we do get a real good look at the hummingbirds. I'm not sure what species any of them are, but I do know that the bully is the one with the dark throat and is the smaller one.
