Mastering My New Aeropress Coffee Maker/ Re-blog lottery!

For Christmas my next door neighbor gifted me a new Aeropress Coffee Maker. I really had no experience with one of these before so it was a bit of a learning curve to get the coffee just how I liked. My first reaction when I saw the setup was this looks like something I could order from one of those late night infomercials. But I decided to read the instructions and give it a go anyway.

I don't have a coffee grinder here in the house so I usually buy pre-ground coffee. But to be honest the last few years I've been using a Keurig with the prefilled K-cups because it's easy and pretty much mess free. Fortunately my neighbor also gave me a small bag of Dunkin medium roast Colombian coffee which was nice of her. I usually prefer dark roast or expresso, but as they say never look a gift horse in the mouth....

My first round did not go well.... The coffee came out really weak so I tossed it down the drain. Second round I doubled the amount of coffee grounds and increased the soak time from thirty seconds to two minutes. It came out much better and tasted like coffee you would buy at the coffee shop. As a matter of fact it was really good.

So today I made up a cup so you can see what it entails and give you a few tips I have learned from trial and error. First off you can see a steaming cup of coffee. My coffee cup was in the dishwasher so I used one of these old ones the ex-wife bought and were never really used. Somehow I got stuck with all the junk and she took all the nice stuff, go figure....

First off this is the basic setup. It's kind of like a syringe modified for coffee making. There is the tube with a black coffee filter holder at the bottom, a top like a syringe, and the weird looking black thing is the stir the grounds after adding the water.

First you twist of the filter receptacle and place an included coffee filter inside. The replace it back onto tube.

Next up select you favorite coffee to brew up. In this case like I mentioned it's a medium roast Colombian which isn't bad. But I prefer dark roast.

Now I realize I forgot to take a picture of the measuring cup that is provided to properly measure your coffee grounds to add. One heaping scoop for me was way too weak, so I add two heaping scoops and it comes out nice and strong!

Add the grounds into the tube on top of the coffee filter and place on the top of your cup.

Next add about two cups boiling water carefully into the tube onto the grounds and stir with the black plastic stirrer.

Then this is an important note, as soon as you mix place the syringe like top onto the top of the tube to hold the fluid in place. The suction keeps it in the tube to brew with the coffee grounds. If you don't it will start to drain into your cup rather than brew in the tube.

After about two minutes you push down on the syringe to drain the coffee into your cup. The instructions said thirty seconds but it just wasn't enough time to really brew in the flavor.

And you have a great cup of coffee!

The coffee honestly tastes great, but the only problem I have found is I tend to make a bit of a mess so I did this all on top of paper towels. My other issue is that it's not as simple as put in a k-cup and push start. There's a lot more work and cleanup involved. So I will likely stay with my Keurig coffee maker for the most part, even though this little device does make great coffee. If you're looking to make a single cup of coffee and don't have a Keurig this would be a great option, and ground coffee is much less expensive that k-cups.

So I do recommend it for a single cup of coffee, and it does taste great!

Thanks for stopping by to read my post, and I hope you enjoyed it. If you have any questions, comments or concerns feel free to leave them below. Have a great Thursday!

Aww 🥰 You have a really good next door neighbour to give you such a nice gift. It looks a little complicated to make a cup of coffee, but so is my friend’s coffee machine, but I do use it multiple times a day when I visit her. It just tastes that good 😁

Enjoy your gift 🎁

Sounds awesome my friend! This is similar to a French press!😊
We used a similar press over the holidays at my son’s house. It does take a bit to get the coffee ground mixture just right!😇

It does come out great. I've never used a French press so the concept is a little new to me. I've become a little lazy with the Keurig! 😅

Oh, so it's kind of like a French Press? I don't drink coffee, so I really don't know too much about it. That's nice that your neighbor was so thoughtful. I can't imagine exchanging gifts with my neighbors.

It's like a French Press which I've never owned. Good coffee though. I just exchange with one neighbor who I've known for about 20 years!

Look up the inverted method. You can find plenty of videos on youtube. I typically invert it and let it steep for about 5 minutes before making it. Shorter if I'm in a hurry, but when I can I let it steep. That can make it so strong that I have to add some water, making something of an americano.

If you push the plunger down slowly it makes less of a mess. Going too fast builds up the pressure and it just goes everywhere.

Thanks I'll try that! I love strong coffee! Learning the tricks of a new toy takes awhile! I've learned to push nice and slow, I'm going to check out the inverted method for sure. How long have you had yours now?

You know I don't even remember. At least 10 years. I love it and use it all the time. It's a sturdy gadget and can survived many moves.

That's a nice gift. One thing, I can't see any pictures after opening the post, I changed nodes in Keychain as well as peakd, which nodes do you use? It's annoying to say the least not to see pictures after opening a post :(

Looks like api.hive and rishipanthee right now. I hate it when the pictures won't load. Does it matter if you try Ecency? Just curious if the frontend is an issue.

Oh my gosh why didn't I think of that myself haha.
It works on ecency :)

This afternoon I'm digging into Euro coins and their values, we had quite a bit of spare change and it seems there could be some that are worth a bit more today. I bet it won't be any of these 500-1000 euros each ones (I think they are just listed with unreasonable prices, but what do I know lol) but still, not spending these until I know more :)

Totally distracted from my actual plan to post about the silver coin haha

How are you today?
!PIMP

You might be surprised by the values of even some of the modern coins! I never spend my change until I have sorted through it. I have found coins worth hundreds in my change before. The silver you can pick up when you find good deals!

I don't know why on occasion one frontend won't communicate with the others. I've seen that with Leo and Ecency before which is always so frustrating... But now sure how to fix it.

I'm hanging in, a little tired still, guess I need more coffee. How are you feeling today?

Haha, that's SO funny that you mentioned it. I forgot to check my own little bit of spare change and guess what? There was a 2 euro coin from Hamburg from this year, it seems to have a sort of collectible value I see them from 3 something to up much higher (because of different reasons). So I'm defo keeping that one :)

Told the other half, change goes here ----> first need clearance lol (which probably means a lot will be there until I feel like going through the smaller valued ones)
