White Breasted Nuthatch

This Nuthatch is perched on the Maple tree that is right next to the birdfeeder. He has been busily eating insects found in the bark. One of its favorites is the sunflower seeds and peanuts that I throw out for the squirrels. I have seen him wedge one into the tree bark and break the nut open with its beak.

During the winter months, I see the pair of birds on the suet cake a lot. They are often with the Titmouse and Chickadees vying for the suet. Of course, they have to compete with the larger Woodpeckers too.

It has been seen on the birdfeeder a lot lately and I wonder if it is storing some of the seed for the winter somewhere. I know the birds will be here all winter long as I see them every year. This is my entry for the short-legged birds this week. Have a wonderful week my friends.

Thank you @melinda010100 @barbara-orenya and @nelinoeva for this fun #smap contest. Have a great week everyone!

I have seen nuthatches twice or three times only. But I keep looking.

I liked seeing the nuthatches. I'm hoping we can get bird feeders up near the dining room table. My helper friend had an idea for hanging them this year.

You will really enjoy having feeders near the windows. The birds bring such joy watching them enjoy the seed.

Nice to become familiar with the habits of the smaller birds that stay all year round, sound like they have similar habit to squirrels hiding food with winter months too..

I agree, I love having so many types of birds coming to the yard to feast. The Nuthatches and Titmouse are always delightful. I think my favorite is the Chickadees as I love their song.

Normally the smaller birds that stay close to the house, singing gorgeous tunes especially early morning and dusk.

We have so many birds around the garden and wooded areas. But it’s hard to spot them, too many trees with hiding places!

That makes it pretty hard for you to capture any good photos of the birds. Happy weekend to you my friend.
