Mexican Murals - The Face Replacing the Lips [CCC's Street Art Contest #192]

(Edited)

I'm always happy to see new murals appearing where I remember seeing old ones in the past. Art is not eternal, after all, and even if taggers and other vandals leave a wall painting alone, the sun does its own pat to bleach the colors out until only a faint memory of the original work remains.

So it's best to paint it all over entirely, preferably with something completely new! Whether the replacement is as impressive as the previous one remains up to the beholder, but even if it is not all that great, a few months (years) later we can probably expect something to come up in its place.

The Growing Lips are Gone

Whenever such a replacement of murals happens, I feel particularly fortunate to have posted about whatever image got covered over, so that the art will be stored in the blockchain forever and ever... Hold on! At the moment our blockchain stores all text, but no images (as far as I know)... even if you happened to save them on PeakD. So never mind then! What's nice, is that you probably can still see my post about the big red lips, located on the corner of Av. Jalisco and Gob. Luis G. Vieyra.

As you can imagine, over the course of more than four years those lips started to really fade and crumble, which I did not take a picture of, for obvious reasons. Now I wish I had, just before they were removed. What has taken its place is something even more interesting: I'd describe it as a biomechanical combo of a 1980's radio with some organic pieces (heart, guts, tacos). It is even wearing a human-like face, complete with an ear, and some brains growing out of it on the side.

The mural does not include any identifying marks of the artist, such as a signature tag, or anything of that sort. However, the style of the painting does seem quite familiar. In fact, right there in my neighborhood of San Miguel Chapultepec there are many examples of street-art that bear this same face. In fact, it was one of my earliest mural posts, even before I got into the weekly CCC's Street Art Contest (which you really should check out in case you don't know). Please keep in mind, that when I wrote this post about the familiar face, I still had to save the images on an external site, and so some of them are no longer available. But take a look for yourself. Also, feel free to browse through my long collection of Mexican Murals.

Cool mural... this wall deserved a new work, the Red Lips were starting not to be very red anymore 😀 Thanks for sharing these pics on The StreetArt Community.

Have a great day

Oh, back when I took the photo of the red lips, they were still fairly new. Last time I saw them, they were actually in a horribly faded and crumbling shape. So yeah, good thing they got painted over. Even better, they were covered by another cool image.

It's always cool to see a wall being "renewed", especially with quality work.
