A Chance To Shine

Introduction

One more week until Christmas! Anyways, this post will be for the battle mage secrets challenge. The theme featured this week is Rise Of The Commons. In this ruleset, you can only use common and rare units but take note that you can still use epic and legendary summoners.

My Strategy & Tips for Rise of the Commons ruleset

I feel Water, Life and Earth are the best choices in most cases for Rise of the Commons ruleset. Water has amazing common cards like Pelacor Bandit, Meerdali Guardian, Diemonshark and Deeplurker. For Earth, you have Mycelic Infantry, Goblin Psychic, Mycelic Slipspawn. Life has some solid units like Pelacor Conjurer, Celestial Harphy and Time Mage. I would priorize Water element since it's probably the highest percent win-rate play.

A strong neutral unit I like is Arkemis the Bear. This is a god-tier Rise of the Commons card in a mid-high mana. It just brings so much to the table. It's a good tank, it does a lot of damage as well and provides good support with the armor for whole team. Another one of my favorite neutrals is the new rebellion promo Grimabardun Smith. This card should be a legendary but it's not. It's pretty much a free win in noxious fumes and rise of the commons. I also like Chaos Agent. It's an insane one mana that can be used to fodder for sneak or even to put as a tank in low mana battles. Lastly, I also like to use Supply Runner in this ruleset. The extra speed it gives to the team is always huge. I hate missing due to speed difference and this card solves that issue.

As for summoners, it's best to play high winrate summoners and if possible strong legendary summoners like Immortalis, Grandmaster Rathe, Lily Shieldpaw are all good choices provided Lux Vega/Kelya are not available.

The Battle

The battle link can be found here. I actually played this battle today just a few hours before writing this post on my scholar account. Also a bit off topic but I was able to reach Champ 1 last season on my scholar account with mostly CL Cards and even get on the leaderboard! I started this season in champ and already dropped to diamond. It has been a rough start to the season. Anyways this match I played had Healed Out, Rise of the Commons and Armored Up as the rulesets. It was a 26 mana cap with only water, life and death element being available.

Discussing My Lineup

image.png

Summoner, Thaddius Brood - I chose Thaddius due to the armored up ruleset. I figured the opponent would try to play a bit heavy towards magic so if armored up wasn't there I probably would've chose Kelya.

First Position, Chaos Agent - This unit was my main tank. It's just suppose to stall a bit by dodging attacks and it was super efficient mana wise since it only cost 1 mana.

Second Position, *Life Sapper - Life Sapper was my magic damage. I wanted to attack through the armored up and this card can also gain health with leech so I wouldn't have to worry about dying from counterspell.

Third Position, Venari Marksrat - I thought there was a chance the opponent might play life and use Pelacor Conjurer so this card can remove flying from it. It also has shatter which is super good at removing all the armor from armored up.

Fourth Position, Venari Bonesmith - Venari Bonesmith I wanted to play his cousin. Ok jokes aside this unit was also for the same purpose as Life Sapper. I also liked how it has dispel just incase there was any martyr plays from the opponent.

Fifth Position, Silent Sha'vi - Silent Sha'vi was my choice to attack the backline. It's good in this rulese because it has piercing so any extra damage will go through the armor.

Sixth Position, Supply Runner - This unit was to speed boost my team. Thaddius Brood doesn't have any speed buffs so this is crucial to ensure my team has decent speed to fight against a Kelya team.

Analysis of The Battle

I surprisingly one this battle. If you watched the match, my Silent Sha'vi just destroyed the whole backline. I was a bit lucky that it didn't miss the Pelacor Bandit because of the flying. It was like a 45% chance to miss due to the spee difference and the flying but I was able to hit twice in a row! I honestly didn't expect the Daigendark Surveyor to be played either. This is why I played Magic units with the leash so they wouldn't die by the magic reflect. Anyways I'm happy with my line up. I think I had a good read on what the opponent would play and it led me to victory.

Do I Like Rise of the Commons

To me, this is actually a fun ruleset to play. It's a good changeup to the battling. It gives common and rare cards a chance to shine. In addition to that, you won't see any Quoras or any strong legendary/epic cards being spammed. It gives the weakest cards a chance to have a shot at the game hence it gives these cards value if not nobody would play them or they would just be a land worker.
