Age 18 - My favorite age.

Keeping records of events has been something difficult for me but considering wonderful contest topics on Hive as been making me have a deep reflection on my life. Every birthday have been an opportunity for me to celebrate life and grace. I can boldly say that my growth was steady and full of memorable experiences. My childhood was lovely because I was the last born I got over pampered by my dad and I became a village champion known for her sharp mouth. If you say one word, I will reply you with three irrespective of your age. My life changed when I started living with my grandma. My grandma was the one God used to shed off some of my bad habits but I cannot lie she beats alot. Her place was like a correctional center for me. Any little mistake from me was backed up with her "pankere"(cane). I was actually in prison while staying with her. My movement was restricted and my choices were under her control.

My freedom came when I celebrated my eighteenth birthday and got admitted into the university. Age 18 was my best age due to some memorable happening. I used to be fat while in secondary school and I was mocked for it. Young guys were not attracted to me, most men that were asking me out then were people of my uncle's age and I felt unloved. I couldn't blend with the girls in the class, I remembered the guys gave me a name then, it was the period when Hummer jeep was reigning. So I was named after it. They called me "Hummer" because I was gifted (back and front) just to make me feel better and appreciated myself.
As stated earlier, I got admission into the university at age 18, my first year was as if I got infected because I lost weight, I started plaiting my hair and I became prettier. The school stress did a good thing in my life because it was the answer to my prayer.

Another wonderful thing about my Age 18 was they fact that I had to live alone out of my grandma's shell. It was a year of discovery for me, I discovered that I am alone in this world and every decision I make will still find it way back into my life. I choose who I allow into my life and I was actually responsible for my safety.
I got wiser and more experienced, I was more calm, focused and responsible. At eighteen I discovered my passion and decided on who I want to become in life. At 18, people do tell me I behave more matured than my age. I became a mother to younger ones and a counselor to my equals due to the wealth of knowledge about life that was impacted in me by my grandma. She was not educated but she never failed to lecture me about life and her words never left me.
