Cassava cake (Burmese snack)

This is the first post in ASEAN HIVE COMMUNITY.
I am from Myanmar (Burma). My name can be called Mr.Lu.
It is a great pleasure to meet ASEAN friends.

Today I would like to share you about a traditional Burmese snack.
This is one of the burmese snacks.
The snack name is Cassava cake that can be easily made in your home.
It's made from grated cassava (manioc).
Fresh cassava roots are found at local markets.
Cassava starch is also used to make tapioca.

We often serve cassava cake at ceremonies, festivals, weddings, birthdays, and feasts.
But you can also find it in street food markets.
It goes by names in Myanmar – Palaw-pinan Sanwin-makin.
As we belong to the ASEAN family, you will have the same food.

I will write about how we do it. My wife and I make this snack together.
My wife is the main maker and I help her.
This snack would not have been possible without her.
So special thanks to my wife for this snack.

Cassava Cake ingredients:
Fresh cassava roots - 3 sticks
Coconut milk - 1 and half boxes
Melted butter - 5 spoons
Eggs - 4
Milk - 0.5 liter (Optional)
Sugar - 300 gram
A little salt
For the topping : grated coconut and poppy seeds

1.Before starting the mixing process, preheat oven to 300F.
Grease the pan with butter or baking spray.

2.Wash fresh cassava roots in clean water.
To protect your hands in the kitchen, It is better to use gloves.

3.First, grate cassava peel using grater (shredder) or a food processor. Then, grate into small pieces cassava.

4.Cook white or brown sugar with water. In this case, I use brown sugar.

5.In a large bowl, add cassava, sugar syrup, coconut milk, butter, egg, oil and a little salt. Mix until well combined.

6.Pour the mixture into a greased pan. For the topping, spread grated coconut and poppy seeds over the cassava.

7.Bake it for 30 minutes. Watch baking time and don't over bake.
When the cassava is golden brown, remove it from the oven.

8.Allow to cool , then serve. It smells so good.

This cassava cake recipe is easy to make but delicious.
We also give it to our friends and neighbors.
They say it’s good cassava cake they ever have.
If we make more, we can store cassava cake in the fridge for up to a week.

I love cassava cake. I used to grow my own cassava plant and just boil then eat it. but this is a great recipe!

This looks delicious and sweet 🤤. I love everything that is made from cassava, from cakes, suman and chips. We also have a different variety of sweets desserts made in cassava here in PH.

Wow, what an appealing cake, I don't see too much baking in Southeast Asia because most homes don't have an oven. But this cake looks spongy and delicious, and I like the touch of coconut too.
