The mistake

I was drinking my delicious Americano, and while I was tasting its delicious flavor, my phone that was on the kitchen counter rang, I quickly picked it up to see who it was, and when I answered I saw that it was my friend Jhon. I was very happy since I hadn't seen him for two years.

"Hello, Jhon my old friend, good to hear from you after so long, how have you been?" my elation was contagious to Jhon who let out a few audible smiles into the phone.

"Erick, good to hear from you, how we've been disconnected, hehe! I'm fine, just back in town and was reconnecting with old friendships. Hey I'll invite you to my place and we'll talk more at ease, do you think?" Jhon's voice had a bright timbre and displayed an unparalleled cordiality.

"Great, Jhon, I love the idea, how about we meet tomorrow?"

Jhon replied in the affirmative and we finished planning the meeting, he gave me his address and the time he was free. I hung up the phone and set about finishing my delicious Americano, which was still steaming and filling my nostrils with the intoxicating aroma and exciting taste.

The day went by like a sip of coffee and I was already getting ready the next morning to meet my friend John. I took a cab and pointed him in the direction Jhon had told me to go. When we arrived at the destination, the driver, with a certain coarse look on his face and a three-day-old bad beard, turned around and said to me in his gruff voice. "Hey, we're here. It's five-fifty."

I took some bills yellowed by the passage of time and passed them to him, he smiled in an ungraceful way, then started the car and drove off. I turned to look and saw a large house, beautifully decorated with fascinating modern architecture.

Incredulous at what I saw, I walked up to the house and rang the doorbell, an angelic and pleasant sound could be heard throughout the whole place. The door opened and a girl in a black and white uniform spoke to me very helpfully. "Good morning, sir, how can I help you?"

"I'm looking for my friend, Jhon Casales." The girl looked at me expectantly, while her friendly look and cordial smile, beckoned me to come in.

The girl led me into the living room, where Jhon was waiting, sitting cross-legged. When he saw me, he smiled at me and got up ipso facto, approaching me with open arms. A hug sealed the reunion and then a few words came out of his mouth hidden by a thick beard. "Erick, welcome to my house, things are lying around, I'm just moving in and I haven't finished arranging."

At the end of the affectionate greeting, he invited me to the dining room and told the girl to pass us some cups of coffee. After a few minutes of chatting and laughing about memories. The woman served us our coffees and left for the kitchen.

As I took my first sip of that coffee I noticed a different taste, out of respect I said nothing and continued taking the next two sips which accentuated the strange taste that was eating away at my taste buds. Jhon took his coffee and immediately looked at me quizzically, with his pupils exalted and some words with a nervous twitch coming out of his mouth. "Excuse me... You felt... Something weird in the coffee."

"Yes." I nodded my head.

Then he led me into the kitchen and said to the girl, "Maria, you got the cups wrong."

She was all embarrassed and with red coming out of her face, bent over and apologized. I said to Jhon. "Don't worry, Jhon, it's no big deal. Hehe."

"Yes, it is, it just so happens that your coffee was for me and it contained hallucinogenic mushrooms. I don't want you to think wrong, I'm using these mushrooms as a treatment for my depression." I could tell the sparkle in Jhon's eyes was dimming and a deep sadness invaded his face. "Two months ago, my wife was unfaithful to me and left with a very close friend. I fell into a deep depression and even wanted to end my life on several occasions."

"Oh Jhon, I'm so sorry." My arms went around Jhon's body in sympathetic empathy.

He finished telling me the details of his treatment with the hallucinogenic mushrooms and how they had helped him overcome the depression, which only appeared from time to time. I was stunned listening to all this and could feel myself getting closer to Jhon in a more spiritual way.

"Maria, more coffee please, and this time no surprises for my friend. Hehe."

"Haha, I've never tasted anything like that, and what beautiful colors I saw." A loud laugh came out of my mouth, I don't know if it was because of the joke or because of the effect of the substance still in me.

We ended up drinking a delicious American espresso and toasting about the new opportunities life gives us to move forward.

It is nice that you weren't fully affected by the mushroom drink. Betrayal isn't something good, but I am glad Jhon found someone to speak to.

As I took my first sip of that coffee I noticed a different taste, out of respect I said nothing...

That's exactly how I thought it would happen to me, ha ha ha ha.

It was a nice read. I think many people use mushrooms to deal with different conditions, even physical pain. It's an enigma I have yet to decipher, only I hope it won't come out of my needing special mushrooms for myself.

Thank you for stopping by and leaving your kind comment. She was reading an article about how hallucinogenic mushrooms treated certain pathologies, among these diseases was depression, it was like a blow to inspiration. Hahaha.
