Santa's ho ho ho

The Somoza family was a large family group and they always shared at Christmas, they all traveled and met at the mother's house, and they prepared Christmas dishes: stuffed cornmeal cake, roasted pork leg, caramel sauce, ham bread, chicken salad, among other traditional dishes of the season.

The children enjoyed the traditional games, many cousins enjoyed those days to the maximum, and the grandparents were ecstatic to see their grandchildren running around the yard felt that there was no greater happiness, There were times when the big family gathered to celebrate the great event celebrated for 2000 years, and strengthened the love between the old and new generations that fluctuated in a constant cycle, almost endless, almost unstoppable. Every night the grandparents told fantastic stories of their youth and everyone listened quietly and attentively, it was a tradition they all looked forward to. Eyes sparkled with crystalline hope and excitement as the words flowed in sonorous experiences of the almost octogenarian hierarchs.

On Christmas Eve, the grandmother would tell her grandchildren that when she was a little girl she got to see Santa with a sleigh and reindeer, all amazed by that unlikely story, the children excitedly asked the grandmother to tell it, and she laughingly told them. "I will tell it to you, but I don't want any interruptions, listen carefully and don't miss any details." The expectant children remained in absolute silence and the grandmother continued... "I was 8 years old and I always heard stories about Santa Claus, who came through the chimney of the houses to deliver gifts, one night on Christmas Eve, I asked him before falling asleep to visit me, even though my house had no chimney I wanted to meet him and feel the magic of Christmas. I fell asleep late with that wish in my mind, at midnight I was awakened by a reflection coming through the window that overlooked my room, I got up stealthily and went to the courtyard from where that glow came, I was stunned to see that fat man, dressed in red and his carriage, dressed in red and his carriage pulled by deer, I wanted to run to my parents' room, but he spoke to me, ‘hello Elena, I have come to fulfill your wish, I am here for you to meet me and sow in your soul the spirit of Christmas’, and he laughed with a loud laugh ho, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho; I, so incredulous and stupefied by that surprise, did not speak a word, but I walked towards him and managed to touch him, he was as soft as a cloud, he opened his arms and gave me a warm embrace. Then, he said, ‘I must continue my work, there are so many children who have lost the Christmas feeling and I want to pay him a visit like I did you.’ Saying this Santa climbed into the sleigh and the reindeer took off running towards the firmament. I saw him rise with a trail of tiny stars, he grew smaller and smaller until he vanished, from that day to this I believe that Santa does exist and that when we dream hard dreams come true." The grandmother's words resounded in the eardrums of those child spectators, who expressed different emotions according to their personalities, some fearless, others introverted, others silent, and some with their constant bustle among endless questions.

Susana the most restless granddaughter would say to her. "Grandma, your story sounds so unreal." Her incredulous eyes were fixed on the wizened face of the candid old woman.

"You must believe and it will happen." The grandmother looked at her granddaughter with such unconditional love and her eyes showed a clear hint of brightness from which confidence in the truth flowed.

"Well then, let's all close our eyes and ask Santa to visit us tonight." Everyone in a circle, holding hands, fervently made that wish and the magic happened, it was heard as a ringing of small bells and the ringing of animals and the most particular and well-known laughter on the planet: Ho, ho, ho... The grandmother with her eyes closed showed a curve in the corner of her lips, in her heart, she had the certainty that Santa would not fail her.

The children opened their eyes overwhelmed by the fantastic spectacle they were witnessing and saw the sleigh pass over the house of their grandparents leaving a trail of very bright light, full of magic, while Santa's laughter echoed through all the spaces as an echo of hope in a new tomorrow, full of joy for the time where true human feelings of brotherhood are reborn, excited children rushed over the grandmother in an embrace of infinite affection that flowed like a torrent of the unstoppable waterfall.

Since that night it is said that every Christmas Eve the Somoza's house is visited by Santa, although the locals say that it is the passing of a shooting star that every Christmas Eve passes with an indescribable magic in the starry firmament.

Enchanting! You spin a fascinating tale and like Grandma Elena, we are whimsical, wishing for a visit from Santa. I'm happy she restored the children's Christmas spirit. A heartwarming story! Thank you for participating in the Scholar N Scribe December Invitational. Good luck.
