Qurator's Mischievous Mondays | The Sound of Danger

MM.png

Welcome to Qurator's Mischievous Mondays!

This will be a weekly competition that we will be hosting every Monday. We want to see a little more engagement and fun when it comes to some of our competitions so this will be a simpler and shorter competition. Easy to enter, but maybe not so easy to win. ;) This competition will be similar to the Monday Missions we had a long time ago, but instead of writing posts to enter we will now consider only the comments and answers on this blog as your entry to win.

Why Mischievous?

We all could use a little fun in our lives. We would even say that we deserve it, let loose a little and have a go at making everyone laugh or think a little, even if it is a little over the top or pure silliness. Go all out and let your creative juices flow.

This week's theme : The Sound of Danger

Imagine a society where sound is lethal, and the only safe communication is through sign language or text. How does daily life change?

The previous theme : A Message from the Deep

While on a deep-sea diving expedition to explore unknown territories of the ocean, you find yourself enveloped in the serene, mysterious blue depths. As you descend further, a massive, ancient creature, unseen by human eyes until now, emerges from the darkness and begins to circle you. It communicates, sending a powerful message directly to your mind. What profound secrets does this guardian of the deep share with you, a lone diver far from the surface world?

At the moment of writing I sit down with this view. As you can imagine, there is a lot of noice. Behind my back hundreds of people are walking by and in front of me hundreds of cars are passing as well. Together with the sound of some scooters, some music of people, an ambulance, etc. I would be instantly dead.

So, if lethal sound would suddenly start, I would be dead. If it would already be the standard, I would probably not experience any peoblem. Although I thi k life would be difficult. Yes, people can stop talking, just using signs / typed communication. But you can't take away sound from everyday life. Yes, electric cars make nearly no noise. But what if a car crashes, even a slight crash would cause people to die. The same would happen if you drop a plate, aglass or some cutlery.
I think using sign language wouldn't be the real problem for society. I think accidental sou ds would kill whole humanity rather fast.

If suddenly sounds became lethal, I think it would be dangerous more than changing everyday life. Something as simple as birdsong or a sigh would be something to avoid at all costs. Happiness would leave our lives, as a smile without its characteristic sound is not a smile, it is just a facial expression. I would miss music a lot, the sound of the wind, the voices of my loved ones, and the barking of my puppy.

Communicating would be almost impossible for some people, as although sign language may be useful during the day, at night it would not be as effective over long distances. An alternative would be to use the light language that sailors used. I think it's like Morse code, but turning lights on and off. Here arises another problem, as blind people would be unable to communicate.

But it would not only affect the lives of individuals, but also at the level of communities and countries. I can't imagine a construction site or a factory completely silent, so I take for granted that technological progress would be completely halted. Even going from one place to another would be complex, as we should forget about conventional means of transportation, since even walking produces sound depending on the terrain.

If sound became lethal and we managed to survive the danger it brings, I think we would devolve in such a way that we would lose many traits that currently define human beings as a species.

The bed starts to shake... it's the alarm clock!
A kind of large vibrator is used to wake up humans!

Homework is done without being able to optimize time by listening to the news of the day. We are no longer multitasking!

To ask for permission, you need to lightly touch the person in front of you. This upset and social phobias woke up!

There is no music, so there is no dancing.
Happiness has disappeared from the world!

Terrorists were in a secret laboratory working on a biological weapon, an accident happened, an unexpected fire caused a gigantic explosion when it came into contact with the chemicals in the place, no one survived. The gas cylinders being produced in the chambers were damaged and the gas was released into the atmosphere. Over time, air currents caused this product to travel across the planet.

As the days went by, people began to die for no reason at all. Dozens, hundreds and thousands of people died every day and, after around 50% of humanity had perished, the real problem was discovered: sound!

The biological weapon affected humans in a very unexpected way, sound became humanity's greatest enemy, noise, however simple it may be, became lethal. The world went into crisis and the population was falling every minute. How can we inform people of the danger if we cannot use sound? Leaflets, newspapers and papers were spread across the planet.

The population collapsed, 90% of humans disappeared in the face of this evil, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel, the news finally reached all the survivors and now everyone knows about the problem and is looking for ways to survive.

The world was practically deserted, cities were reduced to villages, everyone wanted to live in isolation, the fear of hearing any noise was real and clear. Items that in the past were used by few have become common accessories for humanity: ear protectors to stay alive and paper and pencils for communication. Sign language was an alternative for some.

Humans are getting smaller every day as it has become difficult to have children and take care of them properly. Childbirth was a big problem, techniques and accessories were developed for the birth of new babies, crying at birth was a big challenge to be resolved and overcome. Life has become difficult, but it is still possible to survive.

Congratulations to other winners.

There exist a world far beyond the imagination of ordinary humans, where higher class humans live and flourish. Due to the evolution that has taken place in this human race, sound is now lethal as any sound made is harmful to the existence of this evolved human race. This however has greatly affected the mode of communication between each other. Communication is done by Writting on a piece of paper or through hand signs.

This place is not like the average earth as things here are more advanced and unique. Compared to the original earth, in other to communicate in this place, one have to undergo intensive training on the use of texts and signs to express oneself.

The rate of illiteracy here is limited and controlled because everyone needs to communicate, and as such, they need to undergo school training right from birth to achieve this.

There is no religious disparity as everyone believes in one higher entity. No discrimination.

Though it is somewhat difficult for the short tempered people to express themselves, they too have their way of controlling their anger as the school gave them step by step guide right from birth.

Everything went fine and smoothly in this second earth and I really wish I can b part of it but well, it all exists in my imagination. Haha.

Thank you for reading

Now, life is nothing but noise and buzzing, I miss the songs I used to love. I don't hear the voices of those I love anymore, nor the sounds of nature that helped me relax in the toughest moments.

After any sound became lethal, humanity took a while to get used to it. One way humans found to protect themselves was by piercing their own eardrums. When a baby is born, the first thing doctors do is a small surgery to prevent any sound from entering their ears.

We no longer have sound distractions, loneliness seems to be present even in the midst of a crowd. Eyes need to be more efficient without the aid of sounds to alert of any danger.

There's a calmness that isn't natural. Artists suffered the most, concerts, parties are now part of the past, people seem sadder and try to find a routine to keep on living.

Luckily, we have technology to aid in communication. Schools teach sign languages, and people avoid noises in every way. There are many adaptations to survive. But we'll manage, we're adaptable beings to any situation.
