There is an undetermined city where it is always raining. Over the course of a week, mutilated corpses appear in a brutal way, the pattern that these murders follow is that of the seven deadly sins. Investigating the case are two detectives: David Mills (Brad Pitt), a young, recently married, impulsive cop with a lot of nerve and an eagerness to solve cases to prove he is up to the task, and William (Morgan Freeman), a methodical and patient officer on the verge of retirement.

Mills' wife Tracy (Gwineth Paltrow), who is pregnant, lives alone and does not adapt to the city.

Two opposing detectives join forces to face the biggest challenge of their lives. To stop the most intelligent and calculating serial killer they have ever met. An executioner obsessed with the word of God, and the violence. The killer presents clues to each murder: in the crime scene always appearing different words that are related to the seven deadly sins.

Seven days, seven sinners, an inquisitor and two detectives involved in a lurid and aberrant story that questions a society and its members who at all times point out what is immoral or wrong.

Brad Pitt not only puts on a pretty face, he gives a very correct performance, which works like the exact mechanism of a watch when accompanied by an also magnificent Morgan Freeman.

Pride, Greed, Lust, Envy, Gluttony, Anger, Sloth, elements that a psychopath Kevin Spacey manipulates to execute a master plan.

After committing his crimes this psychopath John Doe (Kevin Spacey), arrives at the police station bloodied, discovering his face for the first time and ready to turn himself in.

John Doe punishes his victims with the torture of the excess of that same sin, that the sinner's own body can not endure, and proof of that, is the sin of laziness, does not even kill that Victim on the contrary, keeps him alive, which is worse than death.

Doe only increases the wrath of Detective Mills, something he puts into practice from the moment he arrives in the city. When he spares his life and then rubs it in later, there he is reaching the zenith of his torture, even if David does not die, he is receiving a torture of pure rage that he cannot endure, the climax being the death of his wife

William tells David that if he kills John, he wins, and he's right. If David did not kill John, it would demonstrate that in John's work, the sinner does not deserve his due punishment, because envy would receive no punishment at all, leaving his great masterpiece as a series of tortures without more. By David killing John, John shows that the circle is closed.

The ending is apocalyptic and heartbreaking, the viewer of the film manages to feel uncomfortable before the impotence of the events.

Thanks to this film, Brad Pitt was able to turn his career around and make them see what a great actor he is. Kevin Spacey gives an electrifying performance as a creepy killer , Morgan Freman shows all his charisma on screen and represents the voice of reason as Brad Pitt's partner.

The film conveys the idea that at every turn something unexpected is about to happen and we will be shown things we would not want to happen. In addition, it stars a cute kid (Brad Pitt) who manages to prove that he is more than just a pretty face, and a talent to be reckoned with in the years to come.

This film was masterfully directed by David Fincher in 1995, it has a very dark and very modern visual aspect dominated by black, gray and dark brown colors. The script is bulletproof and is written by Andrew Kevin Walker.

The music uses in its opening credits music by Trent Reznor's band Nine Inch Nails. For the end credits David Bowie's song The hearts filthy lessons was used. The opening credits have been imitated ad nauseam by other films.
