How I smuggled Cocoa Beans from Ghana

This is not going to be a lengthy post. The thing is - I don't particularly enjoy writing - only sometimes. The way I write is without much thought; I just do it. It's an exercise that occurs to me spontaneously, allowing me to use Hive to share my thoughts or anything I want at a particular time. This post isn't anything special; it's not going to change the world.

Sometimes, my brain and I feel excitement about grand ideas, building applications, implementing technology, connecting people, attending events like the one in Ghana along with @mcsamm or creating documentaries that I can proudly share with the community. We can all showcase these efforts and say, 'This is what we are doing as part of Hive.'

Now, what does Hive have to do with cocoa beans? Why am I even writing about it? I won't delve into how I met @hallmann and ended up in @krolestwo, but I can say that it's an amazing story I always love to share, and I hope to discuss it more at some point. One important thing: throughout my journey with Hive, Dawid - @hallmann - has become my friend. I've visited an amazing place in the heart of Krakow where you can pay in HBD, talk about Hive, or where we organize various events.

When I was preparing to make a documentary, Dawid, being a fan of chocolate, asked me to bring some cocoa beans. At one of the boreholes where the community now has access to water, thanks to Hive, they also had a Cocoa Fruit plantation and were drying cocoa beans.

So, I took the opportunity to kindly ask/buy from them. Unfortunately, the villagers couldn't accept Hive as payment, but they kindly gave me some dried beans.

I packed them securely and brought them all the way from Ghana to Poland without any issues, even going through airport security checks. So, hey! If anyone from Ghana is coming to Poland, feel free to bring 50kg of cocoa beans in your checked baggage. But now, we're seriously considering sending large amounts in tons via containers. Does anyone think it's possible?

Here in Poland we held a small event where we made chocolate.

These are the kinds of things I don't often share. However, I mention them here to illustrate a small story of how Hive is connected.

This is so wonderful! I appreciate your charity works in Ghana and how you are providing clean water through construction of boreholes. Well-done.
I would do the same if I were in your shoes because I love Cocoa 😊

Your experience shows that even small gestures can have great meaning when they are driven by passion and community spirit. I hope you continue to share more stories like this, because they help put a human face on Hive and make it more than just a digital platform.

Sounds like a great adventure :) Why not start with a smaller shipment instead of tons?

Probably costs of transport would be pretty big, but I'm happy to find out about prices of shipment even smaller parcels

It doesn't hurt to look into it. It might also be worth seeing if it's cheaper to travel there yourself, and bring it along as extra baggage? It would also get there faster.

We can arrange to ship in smaller quantities (5-10 kg) with very affordable shipment fees.

Did you say you smuggled? Naaa, we officially acquired it from one of the borehole communities. I am happy you finally carried it. We can work things out to bring more over to your end, buddy. I hope it serves you well.

for a minute I actually thought you did smuggle cocoa beans back home but I guess you earned it.😅

I don’t really get to enjoy Ghana cocoa very much but trust me when I tell you it’s good. I bet you enjoyed it.

Actually, it’s possible to send cocoa beans or even cocoa fruit itself from Ghana to wherever you are. Maybe I could help you with that.

ps: I hope you got back safely.
