The Anime Realm Contest #2: I recommend to watch Shin Sekai Yori
The contest that brings us this holiday season, has to do with recommending a non-mainstream anime/manga, so obviously the most known titles have no place. So today, December 24, I was thinking about which one I could recommend to all of you, but it was not an easy task, I have seen a lot of anime of which I have even forgotten the names. Such is the case of "Shin Sekai Yori", I knew I had seen it about 10 years ago and that I had liked it a lot, but I had completely forgotten what it was called, so I had to search the internet for the long list of mystery anime that exist until luckily I was able to find it.
The truth is I'm not completely sure if this is a non-mainstream anime, but at least I know that many of you don't know it and that it is not part of those famous tops of best anime/manga of all times that I usually check when I want to see a new anime. However, I know that those who have seen it have been left with a good impression, at the time (10 years ago) when I was inquiring about this anime, I only read excellent comments, especially from those who like mystery, horror and drama stories.
El concurso que nos cita esta temporada de fiestas, tiene que ver con recomendar un anime/manga non-mainstream, por lo que evidentemente los títulos más conocidos no tienen cabida. Así que hoy, 24 de diciembre, estuve pensando en cual podría recomendarles a todos, pero no fue una tarea fácil, he visto una gran cantidad de anime de los cuales incluso he olvidado los nombres. Tal es el caso de “Shin Sekai Yori”, sabía que lo había visto hace como 10 años y que me había gustado mucho, pero había olvidado por completo como se llamaba, así que tuve que buscar en internet la larga lista de anime de misterio que existen hasta que por suerte pude encontrarlo.
La verdad no estoy completamente seguro de si este es un anime non-mainstream, pero por lo menos sé que muchos de ustedes no lo conocen y que no forma parte de esos famosos tops de mejores anime/manga de todos los tiempos que suelo revisar cuando quiero ver un nuevo anime. Sin embargo, sé que quienes lo han visto han quedado con una buena impresión, en su momento (hace 10 años) cuando estuve indagando sobre este anime, solo leí excelentes comentarios, sobre todo de quienes se decantan por las historias de misterio, terror y drama.
So, "Shin Sekai Yori" or "From the New World" is a 2012 anime derived from a light novel, it has 25 chapters which I think fit quite well to watch it from beginning to end in a decent day in the days off this holiday season. Perhaps it is not the most appropriate genre for Christmas, but believe me it is not a depressive story, nor is it cheerful, but what I want to make clear is that you will see something out of the ordinary and that will leave you with very good impressions.
To give you a little more context, this story takes place hundreds of years after our current times, humanity has changed, there are no technological advances of today and everyone seems to live in peace in an unpolluted world and in a society that is very good at cultivating. Humans have the ability to awaken psychokinetic powers, these powers are trained in an academy to perfect them in order to be put to proper use. These psychokinetic abilities can be quite dangerous if used in the wrong way or with bad intentions, even more so if the bearer is talented. On the other hand, it is important to mention that there is a species called "Bakenezumis" which are like giant rats with intelligence, this species will be fundamental in the development of the story.
Entonces, “Shin Sekai Yori” o “From the New World” es un anime del año 2012 derivado de una novela ligera, cuenta con 25 capítulos los cuales creo que encuadran bastante bien para verlo de principio a fin en una decente jornada en los días libres de estas fiestas. Quizá no es el género más apropiado para las navidades, pero créanme que no es una historia depresiva, tampoco es alegre, pero lo que quiero dejarles claro es que verán algo fuera de lo común y que los dejará con muy buenas impresiones.
Para darles un poco más de contexto, esta historia nos ubica cientos de años después de nuestros tiempos actuales, la humanidad ha cambiado, no existen los avances tecnológicos de la actualidad y todos parecen vivir en paz en un mundo poco contaminado y en una sociedad que es muy buena cultivando. Los humanos tienen la capacidad de despertar poderes psicokinéticos, éstos poderes son entrenados en una academia para perfeccionarlos con la finalidad de que se les dé el uso adecuado. Esas habilidades psicokinéticas pueden ser bastante peligrosas si se usan de la manera incorrecta o con malas intenciones, más aún si el portador es talentoso. Por otra parte, es importante mencionar que existe una especie llamada “Bakenezumis” los cuales son como unas ratas gigantes con inteligencia, ésta especie será fundamental en el desarrollo de la historia.
Thus, after a series of events, we will discover that the society in which these humans live is not what it seems to be. The mystery begins to be fundamental during the plot and will immerse us in a complex story that at times can be difficult to understand, but that eventually becomes clearer as dark and disturbing secrets are revealed. Terror and suspense are some of the most important characteristics of this anime, I remember seeing scenes that left me perplexed and that I was not used to seeing in this format, I think that was one of the reasons why this anime remained engraved in my memory.
From my point of view, this anime is not for all audiences, I think that for a child it would be complicated to understand some things that are quite complex and that even for me at that time it was hard to absorb and assimilate. In this anime was the first time I saw scenes of Yaoi and Yuri and that was also one of the aspects that made me understand that the story had a depth and irreverence which I was not used to see since at that time I saw Shonen as the main genre.
Es así que luego de una serie de acontecimientos, iremos descubriendo que la sociedad en la que estos humanos viven no es lo que parece ser. El misterio empieza a ser fundamental durante la trama y nos sumergirá en una historia compleja que por momentos puede ser difícil de entender, pero que con el tiempo se va aclarando a medida que se van revelando oscuros y perturbadores secretos. El terror y el suspenso son unas de las características más importantes de este anime, recuerdo haber visto escenas que me dejaron perplejo y que no estaba acostumbrado a ver en este formato, creo que ese fue uno de los motivos por los cuales este anime quedó grabado en mi memoria.
Desde mi punto de vista, éste anime no es para todo público, creo que para un niño sería complicado entender algunas cosas que son bastante complejas y que incluso a mí en esos tiempos me costó absorber y asimilar. En este anime fue la primera vez que vi escenas de Yaoi y Yuri y ese fue también uno de los aspectos que me hicieron entender que la historia tenía una profundidad e irreverencia la cual no estaba acostumbrado a ver ya que en ese momento veía como género principal el Shonen.
So I think that "Shin Sekai Yori" or "From the New World" is an excellent choice to watch this holiday season because it offers us a different, irreverent story, with mysteries and plot twists that will leave us with a good taste in our mouths. Many of the characters have complex personalities, which make them make decisions that may be incomprehensible to some of us. I must warn you that it is not for all audiences, so some will be forced to open their minds to new experiences. I firmly believe that this anime is a hidden gem and I would be very pleased to know if you have already seen it or if you are interested in this kind of stories. Happy holidays to all!
Es así que creo que “Shin Sekai Yori” o “From the New World”, es una excelente opción para ver en esta temporada de fiestas ya que nos ofrece una historia distinta, irreverente, con misterios y giros de trama que nos dejarán un buen sabor de boca. Muchos de los personajes tienen personalidades complejas, lo cual les hacen tomar decisiones que quizá son incomprensibles para algunos de nosotros. Debo advertirles que no es para todo público, así que algunos se verán en la obligación de abrir sus mentes a nuevas experiencias. Creo firmemente que este anime es una joya escondida y me agradaría mucho saber si ya lo viste o si te interesan este tipo de historias. ¡Felices fiestas para todos!

This is a great series to watch and read. Although theres certainly various deviations between the two adaptations, I think watching the anime it is better than reading it in the manga. But if you like ecchi ones, you might wanna rather read the manga 😅I havent read the novel but there are a few suggesting it has a more immersive experience, though the anime only have minor details difference.
Deviations between formats are usually common, but the important thing is that they do not change substantially with respect to what is canonical. And yes, it is a very interesting anime that deserves to have more space in the mainstream.
Today, children are watching these kinds of films with great interest and I myself also watch such films with great interest, so what you have suggested for us, I will also try. I will definitely watch it.

I didn't know it and it reads interesting. I've seen anime of many genres (even the ones you can't imagine hahaha or maybe yes 😂) so maybe this one will be interesting to give it a chance and watch something different, I love the ones that have plot twists (good or bad) and if there is horror and suspense much better.

I think I haven't watched an anime like this before but it certainly caught my attention, especially seeing that the animation looks really pretty and rosy and the overall theme seems to be nothing alike.

I would say that in a couple of days you could watch all 25 chapters, I know that's not a lot, but if you put your mind to it and have the time you can advance quickly.

Personally I had never even heard of this anime, I may have read a review, I don't remember it at the moment. Maybe the anime series is not the most appropriate for Christmas, which if it is an entertaining and well adapted story, I think there is no problem with them.
