Gods, friendship and amazing cloths - My Favorite Anime
One of the things I liked about this initiative is that it put us all in a big dilemma. Those of us who like this world, have seen dozens of anime throughout our lives, the truth is I do not keep count, but I think I could say that I have seen at least 100 of these of which it is evident that there is a group that I have liked a lot and others that not so much, but generally they have fulfilled the objective that is to entertain me.
So, I say that this initiative is a dilemma because choosing just one among so many wonderful stories is undoubtedly a complicated decision, moreover, I think it is a choice that can change over time. But let's leave intensities aside and let's get to the point, if I have to choose a favorite anime of all time then I have to say it's Saint Seiya. Maybe you might think that this is a very normal and shallow choice, but believe me I have my reasons.
As the vast majority should know, Saint Seiya offers us a universe that is ruled by the gods and I speak more precisely of the Greek gods, although throughout the story other gods from other mythologies also make an appearance, something that enriches and allows everything to be much more interesting. Thus, in this anime we see an epic and endless battle between the saints who are humans powered by the force of the cosmos against the gods who are determined to make clear their superiority and judge humanity.
Una de las cosas que me gustó de esta iniciativa, es que nos metió a todos en un gran dilema. A quienes nos gusta este mundo, hemos visto decenas de anime a lo largo de nuestras vidas, la verdad no llevo el conteo, pero creo que podría decir que he visto al menos 100 de estos de los cuales es evidente que hay un grupo que me ha gustado mucho y otros que no tanto, pero por lo general han cumplido con el objetivo que es entretenerme.
Entonces, digo que esta iniciativa es un dilema porque elegir solo uno de entre tantas historias maravillosas es sin duda una decisión complicada, además, creo que es una elección que puede cambiar con el tiempo. Pero dejémonos de intensidades y vayamos al grano, si tengo que elegir un anime favorito de todos los tiempos entonces tengo que decir que es Saint Seiya. Quizá puedas pensar que es una elección muy normal y poco profunda, pero créanme que tengo mis motivos.
Como la gran mayoría debe saber, Saint Seiya nos ofrece un universo que es regido por los dioses y hablo más precisamente de los dioses griegos, aunque a lo largo de la historia otros dioses de otras mitologías también hacen acto de presencia, cosa que enriquece y permite que todo sea mucho más interesante. Es así que en este anime vemos una épica e interminable batalla entre los caballeros que son humanos alimentados por la fuerza del cosmos contra los dioses los cuales están empeñados en dejar clara su superioridad y en juzgar a la humanidad.
Now, I don't intend to review this anime, I think by now everyone already knows the story or knows what it's about, but why is it my favorite anime, well, there are several reasons which I will proceed to detail:
- The first would be the depth in terms of characters that this universe has, there are many interesting among which we find gods with extravagant personalities and superiority complexes, but we also have the case of Saori who is the reincarnation of the goddess Athena, she for her part has a lot of empathy for humanity. We also find a great variety of warriors with different ranks and different intentions who are at the service of the gods. Of these warriors there are a large number which for the most part are very well developed and with which it is very easy to connect.
- The values of love and friendship are very well presented, this anime taught me as a child to fight tirelessly for my goals and encouraged me to be an honorable person with people and with my actions, so it certainly left an indelible mark on me that I still treasure today.
- Everything that revolves around Greek mythology seems super interesting to me, that culture has any number of stories with very enriching teachings and morals, but it also has violent and bloody stories. However, what stands out the most is the way in which the mangaka takes advantage of those stories and myths to adapt them according to his vision, thus giving us a vast and very entertaining universe.
Ahora bien, no pretendo hacerles una reseña de este anime, creo que a estas alturas ya todos conocen la historia o saben de qué trata, pero ¿Por qué es mi anime favorito?, bueno, hay varias razones las cuales procedo a detallar:
- La primera sería la profundidad en cuanto a personajes que tiene este universo, hay muchos interesantes entre los cuales encontramos dioses con personalidades extravagantes y con complejos de superioridad, pero también tenemos el caso de Saori quien es la reencarnación de la diosa Atena, ella por su parte tiene mucha empatía por la humanidad. También encontramos una gran variedad de guerreros con diferentes rangos y diferentes intencionalidades los cuales están al servicio de los dioses. De estos guerreros hay una gran cantidad los cuales en su mayoría están muy bien desarrollados y con los que es muy fácil conectar.
- Los valores del amor y la amistad están muy bien planteados, este anime me enseñó cuando era un niño a luchar incansablemente por mis objetivos y me incentivó a ser una persona honorable con las personas y con mis acciones, así que sin duda dejó una huella imborrable en mí que aún el día de hoy atesoro.
- Todo lo que gira en torno a la mitología griega me parece súper interesante, esa cultura tiene cualquier cantidad de historias con enseñanzas y moralejas muy enriquecedoras, pero también tiene historias violentas y sangrientas. Sin embargo, lo que más destaco es la forma en la que el mangaka aprovecha esas historias y mitos para adaptarlos de acuerdo a su visión, regalándonos así un vasto universo muy entretenido.
- The aesthetic part regarding the design of the characters is a marvel, the cloths worn by the saints are an infinite work of art, I still find it impressive how the mangaka managed to create costumes adjusted to the theme of the zodiac signs (in the case of the gold saints) and other creatures or astral elements. The cloths give the saints an imposing and epic presence, and the techniques used by the saints became icons and references in shonen.
- The scenarios in which the battles take place are another great success of Saint Seiya. Is there anything more epic than the Sanctuary, the 12 houses are perhaps one of the elements that we remember the most, the structures in which prevail those high marble columns perfectly evoke the essence of Greek mythology, but that's not all, we also have the pillars at the bottom of the ocean, the cold Asgard, the 7 hells of the underworld and the Elysian fields. I really don't think another anime can beat this one in terms of scenery.
- La parte estética respecto al diseño de los personajes es una maravilla, las armaduras que portan los caballeros son una obra de arte infinita, aún me parece impresionante como el mangaka logró crear trajes ajustados a la temática de los signos zodiacales (en el caso de los caballeros dorados) y demás creaturas o elementos astrales. Las armaduras le dan una presencia a los caballeros que es imponente y épica, además, las técnicas que utilizan los caballeros pasaron a ser iconos y referencias en cuanto al shonen se refiere.
- Los escenarios en los que se desarrollan las batallas son otro gran acierto de Saint Seiya ¿Acaso existe algo más épico que el Santuario?, las 12 casas son quizá uno de los elementos que más recordamos, las estructuras que en las que prevalecen esas altas columnas de mármol evocan perfectamente la esencia de la mitología griega, pero no es solo eso, también tenemos los pilares en el fondo del océano, la fría Asgard, los 7 infiernos del inframundo y los campos Elíseos. La verdad no creo que otro anime supere a este en cuanto a los escenarios se refiere.
I could go on describing the reasons why I feel Saint Seiya is my favorite anime, but I think I've already described enough. Evidently nostalgia plays an important role in all this, I watched this anime when I was a kid and by that time it was the best thing available, I remember having toys, cards, games, among other things that I would never have been encouraged to have from other anime, that's how I can notice the impact that Seiya and his friends have in my life.

Evidentemente la nostalgia juega un papel importante en todo esto, vi este anime cuando era muy niño y para ese entonces era lo mejor que había disponible.Recuerdo haber tenido juguetes, cartas, juegos, entre otras cosas que nunca me hubiera incentivado a tener de otros anime, es así que puedo notar el impacto que tienen Seiya y sus amigos en mi vida.

The fact that we see blood, betrayal or violence in some anime does not mean that they are a bad influence, the way in which conflicts are resolved is what teaches us.
The cloths is something that no other anime has achieved, besides, it is true that the opening is perhaps one of the most recognized in this world of anime.
Nunca he visto Saint Seiya, pero cómo todos los animes antiguos y bastante populares, al menos la cara de los personajes reconozco jajajaja, siempre me pareció interesante el tema de este anime, pero nunca me decidí a verlo...

Team SAINT SEIYA!! \😃/ y claro que si es una elección profunda, gracias a manejar su temática de Dioses, constelaciones y mitología en general se merece su lugar, si tiene tendencia a comercial pero eso no opaca su masiva historia queriendo cubir una epopeya griega con Atena, Hades, Zeus etc
Es un pesar que no se haya podido cerrar la historia aun pero pienso es porque los autores al designar protagonistas se casan con ellos y no lo veo necesario, llega un punto de esta historia que pide avanzar a otros personajes y el tratar de mantener protagonismo en seiya termina afectando la narrativa porque hay situaciones forzadas
Independientemente de lo anterior, la saga de las 12 casas es un arco de inspiración en este mundo del anime que básciamente se repite luego pero variando de Dios y que tiene uno de los mejores villanos del anime, EL GRAN PATRIARCA 😃/ TEM VILLANOS JAJAJA
NO existe nada mas épico que el Santuario y sus escaleras eternas 😂
How to forget the Great Patriarch! When I was a kid, just his voice was scary enough, and the best thing is that after the saga of the 12 houses (or the infinite stairs 😅), the character of Saga de Geminis became an interesting influence, great character!
Obviously there are many cons that we could keep mentioning, but overall it's an epic and inspiring story. Hopefully someday we can see the animated "Next Dimesion", that will be contemporary history.

I grew up watching the series and somehow I learned to appreciate it more when I reach adulthood. Love the characters involved, especially in the Lost Canvass series OMEGA is somehow good too.
Like you, I understood many things about Sainte Seiya better after I grew up, his stories are deeper than we think.
Lost Canvas deserves a separate post, it's one of the best things I've ever seen in my life. I'm still looking forward to the animation of the finale, even though the manga was pretty awesome to watch.

Mejor no pudiste resumir lo que tiene este anime, personajes increíbles, sagas brutales y justo eso de los escenarios es lo que lo hace épico y ni hablar de las armaduras y toda la psicología de los personajes. Es un anime que a pesar de no tener en su momento, la calidad visual de los animes actuales, nos tuvo pegados a las Tv's porque simplemente su historia era increíble.

You could not summarize better what this anime has, incredible characters, brutal sagas and just that of the scenarios is what makes it epic and not to mention the armor and all the psychology of the characters. It is an anime that despite not having at the time, the visual quality of current anime, had us glued to the TV's because the story was simply amazing.

I would add that the Spanish gives a more serious approach, a fight between males with hormones because of the timbre of voices.

I think this is also my favorite anime, if not, it's the one I'm most fond of and the one that marked my childhood, youth, and even a big part of my adult life. Maybe as you say, it's nostalgia that makes us think this, but anyway it's a great anime, with spectacular designs and very well-made characters. A lot can be said about Kurumada, but what is certain is that he gave us one of the best shōnen of all time.
The only thing I reproach you is that you have not mentioned the music, all the OST of Saint Seiya is a masterpiece, even the shortest incidental is excellent.
