Urban prosthesis, a question of survival. / Monomad Challenge [Eng/Esp]

I tell you that walking around Havana is like entering a parallel Marvel universe, where time is leaving its trace without haste, and the facades - the targets of my publication - speak all the time of resistance and abandonment. In this series I want to show you ten faces of the city that seem to sustain themselves, almost by pure miracle. They are scenes that are already part of the everyday landscape that I observe day by day and that have become so much my own that sometimes I pass by without seeing them. But there they are, firm and fragile at the same time.

Les cuento que caminar por La Habana es como entrar en un universo paralelo de Marvel, donde el tiempo va dejando su rastro sin apuros, y las fachadas —objetivos de mi publicación — hablan todo el tiempo de resistencia y abandono. En esta serie quiero mostrarles diez rostros de la ciudad que parecen sostenerse, casi de puro milagro. Son escenas que ya forman parte del paisaje cotidiano que observo día a día y que se han vuelto tan mías que a veces paso sin verlas. Pero ahí están, firmes y frágiles a la vez.

Una fachada desnuda, con más madera que muro. Tal parece una prótesis urbana. Es el tipo de vista que ya no sorprende, pero sí duele.

It is like a mixture of momentary solutions that is already part of an involuntary architectural style.

A main entrance turned into a trench, almost ghostly, no people, only footprints.

Una entrada principal convertida en trinchera, casi fantasma, no hay gente, solo huellas.

I believe that Havana's propped-up facades are much more than ruins. They are a reflection of a city that insists and struggles to stay alive despite the passage of time and neglect. Documenting them through photography is also, for me, a way of taking care of them.

Opino que las fachadas apuntaladas de La Habana son mucho más que ruinas. Son reflejo de una ciudad que insiste y lucha por mantenerse viva a pesar del paso del tiempo y el abandono. Documentarlas a través de la fotografía es también, para mí, una forma de cuidarlas.
