Child Dedication On A Sublime Sunday
This is a green Sunday for me; you wonder what that means right. Okays, I just decided to tag it green because in the first image, I am wearing a green cloth. Hehehe!! That seemed the best way to name today. Let me quickly say a big thank you to @c0ff33a for such an amazing community where we can share our Sunday events.
This a customary Nigerian Christian child dedication at the church. Usually, after forty-one days of giving birth to a newborn baby, the parents would go to the church to present the child before God.
In think this is in consonance with how the Biblical Hannah, having been barren for several years after being married to her husband without a child. So, in her agony, she promised to return the child to God if He will grant her desire of having a child.
So, I joined my brother in presenting his child to God in the church today. Such event is one what we celebrate here.
Before the outing, I had first gone to church with my son, Chinechetam by name. He is an amazing boy. His name is a reflection that God does not forget His people.
At the church service today, we were taught not to lean on our understanding. Focusing on God as the only one that can help us will make us never be disappointed. Ot was a glorious service and it feels like never to leave the presence of God.
You know, African grandparents are always very joyous to see their grandchildren. Today, the maternal and paternal grandmothers of the newborn baby girl were here present at the church dedication. She was born in December 2021. And her name is Somtochukwu. which when interpreted means, join me in praising God.
My younger brother and his wife have been married since 2018. They have all the reasons in the world to thank God for having their child. You can see the excitement in the face of everyone on their behalf.
The joy of becoming a parent and responsible to a child is second to none.
On Saturday evening proceeding the child dedication, some preparations for entertaining guests at the events have started already.
Different types of food were made.
Here in Nigeria, we hold such a situation in high esteem. So, there was rice, served with chicken and veggies. On the other hand, there were varieties of local soups with morsels.
After the pastor had concluded the sermon, we were asked to present the baby. We had to dance with the baby to the altar where the baby was prayed for and dedicated to God.
Da
Family and friends joined the procession as we all danced to present Somtochukwu at the altar.
After the church service we feasted at my brother's place. It was a mixture of glamour and food and dance.
This is what made my Sunday sublime.
