What would you do if you met your favorite character?

This is usually one of the questions that is always asked when several readers agree on a topic of conversation about literature, and it really is a question that although I like, I prefer not to answer it because mostly when I read a book I got crushed with some character. I like more to answer which character I hate I would rather meet, because my strongest feelings are ruled by rancor 😹. On the other hand when I talk about favoritism or preferences, my list is very long and abundant since I read since I was 14 years old.

Having a favorite book is not the same as having a favorite character, besides, choosing a character to taste already depends on whether it meets the expectations you expect in a love relationship, or sometimes we see it from the perspective of a development as a character, there is also the point where if you identify with that character and their experiences or problem, and there is the option where you choose it because no one else in the story chose it and you think it deserves much more than its final result, which makes a pool of variables that we take into account when choosing a favorite character.

Over the years I have had a variety of favorite characters, and just now I am realizing that they have nothing to do with my favorite books; however, for this occasion in my participation in this special event, I am going to talk about my last character chosen as a leader in my dreams because he fulfills all the expectations and aspirations I had when I was 12 years old when I thought of my ideal man, in a romantic way, because let's be honest: nothing fulfills expectations more than a fictional character.

A couple of months ago through a recommendation I saw on Twitter I stumbled upon a book that is a mix between adult romance and drama with a sports theme. Written by Liz Tomforde, The Right Move is the second installment in a saga of Windy City books, with independent stories by this author, where she develops characters that stay in the same universe with their romantic and self-improvement stories. Tomforde, stars in this romantic story of Indy and Ryan, two adults with a variety of problems and struggling to be on the cusp of what they consider their personal successes.

My favorite character is Ryan Shay and I want to tell you why.

Presentation of the character's story:

Ryan Shay at his sister's request starts living with her best friend, and when an opportunity presents itself to become the captain of his team, he will have to fake a love relationship with Indy. As time goes by, emotional problems come to the fore as Ryan becomes comfortable, too comfortable, with faking a love affair with this Indy. However, Ryan drags a painful past as he was betrayed by the woman he loved, she tricked him into believing she was pregnant by him just to collect alimony, as Ryan had a guaranteed position for the NBA. But the reality was that she had another partner and the baby was not Ryan's and he found out the same day the baby was born. All these secrets he kept quiet and suffered in silence, which caused him to become a person far away from his family and friends, it did not mean that he was not attentive, but he established limits that made pain and loneliness his best companions.

As he falls in love with Indy, he begins to recognize his own emotions and strives to leave behind everything that causes him anxiety and suffering; the pillar of his development is trust and sincerity, two characteristics we should all aspire to have.

I have always, since I was a little girl, been a basketball fan, the NBA is as good as it gets for me. When I started this book and saw that our main character Ryan is a professional NBA player, I knew I was going to be smitten. Beyond the stereotype, what I liked most about Ryan was that he didn't fit into the popular image that professional players in the league usually give, we also know as readers that the typical non playboys are also cliché within this type of literature, but this protagonist captivated me in every way possible.

Ryan is the type of character that breaks the scheme of that fragile masculinity, in this case he is a guy who has other types of fear, such as not being enough for someone, not achieving his dream or that his desires prevent him from crossing his goals. Furthermore, the construction of his essence allows us to see that Ryan is a man who takes care of his own, someone born to be a leader, the kind of player who is focused, centered and committed. Ryan's past also explains why he hesitates, and lies in order to achieve his ambitions. He, through his development, of a rather poignant lesson that a man can also be damaged almost irreparably by the woman he loves.

One of the things I daydreamed about several weeks after determining the book was how exciting it would be to share training with Ryan. I love basketball, and he is a character who loves basketball, so the first thing I would love to do if I met him would be to have a full day of just him and I practicing mid-range shots, free throws, and three-pointers until my legs and arms couldn't take it anymore. There is no doubt that I would feel too complete and happy to share what I love with a person I love, and without a doubt even though Ryan is not a physical person on this plane where we meet, I love him 😍.

Literature is also one of Ryan's justs, and for that reason he has a fairly large library in his living room, so another thing I'd like to do with him would be a quiet afternoon of reading where we share the space, but don't have the need to invade or hinder our quiet time in the midst of literature. Ryan, on his best days is also someone who knows how to listen very well to others, so I would like to take advantage of some of those days and tell him about the romance or romance novels that are not his preference but that he would be attentive to my comments because he is that kind of person.

This character that I loved, is also characterized because he has a very dry and indifferent personality, something with which I felt quite identified because although we care about the people we love does not mean that we will externalize our feelings and emotions; this is one of the factors that makes the character someone very attached to his solitude and independence. So in case I meet him and develop a bond I would like the conversations to also have a point where we respect our privacy and that desire to stay at home and away from the noise that can cause people with their problems.

Without a doubt, he is my ideal guy, one of the things I loved the most about his character is that he is one of those who declares that he would rather let the world die to save you, and I am one of those who prefer that more than those who would let you die to save the world, by the way he declares with fanfare that he would be proud to do that, which I find something extremely sexy 😹.

I'm not going to extend too much because if someone takes the opportunity to read the book, hopefully they will fall in love as deeply as I did. This is my participation in this amazing initiative that has made me feel very happy and at ease, it's always fun to talk about what you like, I will not deny that it was a little difficult to choose the character, but I certainly think it was my best choice.

¿Qué harías si conocieras a tu personaje favorito?

Esta es por lo general una de las preguntas que siempre se hace cuando varios lectores coinciden en un tema de conversación sobre la literatura, y realmente es una pregunta que aunque me gusta, prefiero no responderla porque mayormente cuando leo un libro quedó flechada con algún personaje. Me gusta más responder qué personaje que odio preferiría conocer, porque mis sentimientos más fuerte se dejan gobernar por el rencor 😹. En cambio cuando hablo de favoritismos o preferencias, mi lista es muy larga y abundante ya que leo desde los 14 años.

Tener un libro favorito no es lo mismo que tener un personaje favorito, además, escoger un personaje al gusto depende ya de si cumple con las expectativas que tú esperas en una relación amorosa, o a veces lo vemos desde la perspectiva de un desarrollo cómo personaje, también está el punto en donde si te identificas con ese personaje y sus vivencias o problema, y está la opción en donde lo escoges porque más nadie en la historia lo escogió y crees que merece mucho más que su resultado final, lo cual hace una piscina de variables que tenemos en cuenta al escoger un personaje favorito.

A lo largo de los años he tenido variedad de personajes predilectos, y justo ahora me estoy dando cuenta que no tienen nada que ver con mis libros favoritos; sin embargo, para esta ocasión en mi participación en este evento especial, voy a hablar de mi último personaje escogido como líder en mis sueños porque cumple todas las expectativas y aspiraciones que tenía a los 12 años cuando pensaba en mi hombre ideal, desde una forma romántica, porque seamos sinceros: nada llena más las expectativas que un personaje ficticio.

Hace un par de meses por una recomendación que vi en Twitter di con un libro que es una mezcla entre romance adulto y drama con la temática de deporte. Escrito por Liz Tomforde, The Right Move es la segunda entrega de una saga de libros Windy City, con historias independientes de esta autora, dónde desarrolla personajes que se mantienen en su mismo universo con sus historias románticas y de superación personal. Tomforde, protagoniza esta historia romántica de la mano de Indy y Ryan, dos adultos con diversidad de problemas y que luchan por estar en la cúspide de lo que ellos consideran sus éxitos personales.

Mi personaje favorito es Ryan Shay y les quiero contar porqué.

Presentación de la historia del personaje:

Ryan Shay a petición de su hermana comienza a vivir con la mejor amiga de esta, y cuando se presenta una oportunidad para convertirse en el capitán de su equipo, tendrá que fingir una relación amorosa con Indy. A medida que pasa el tiempo, los problemas emocionales van llegando a escena por qué Ryan se siente a gusto, demasiado gusto, con fingir una relación amorosa con esta Indy. Sin embargo, Ryan arrastra un pasado doloroso ya que fue traicionado por la mujer que amaba, esta lo engañó haciéndole creer que estaba embarazada de él solo para cobrar una pensión alimenticia, ya que Ryan tenía un puesto asegurado para la NBA. Pero la realidad era que ella tenía otra pareja y el bebé no era de Ryan y este se enteró el mismo día que la bebé nació. Todos esos secretos los mantuvo callados y sufriendo en silencio lo que provocó convertirse en una persona alejada de sus familiares y sus amigos, no significaba que no fuera atento, pero estableció límites qué hicieron que el dolor y la soledad fueran sus mejores compañeras.

A medida que se va enamorando de Indy, comienza a reconocer sus propias emociones y esforzarse por dejar atrás todo aquello que le causa ansiedad y sufrimiento; el pilar de su desarrollo es la confianza y la sinceridad, dos características que todos deberíamos aspirar a tener.

Siempre, desde pequeña, he sido fanática del baloncesto, la NBA es lo mejor que puede haber para mí. Cuando comencé este libro y vi que nuestro protagonista Ryan es un jugador profesional de la NBA, supe que me iba a flechar. Más allá del estereotipo, lo que más me gustó de Ryan era que no entraba en la imagen popular que suelen dar los jugadores profesionales de la liga, sabemos también como lectores que los típicos no playboys también son cliché dentro de este tipo de literatura, pero este protagonista me cautivó en todos los sentidos posibles.

Ryan el tipo de personaje que rompe el esquema de esa masculinidad frágil, en este caso es un tipo que tiene otros tipos de miedo, como el no ser suficiente para alguien, no lograr su sueño o que sus deseos le impiden cruzar sus metas. Además, la construcción de su esencia nos permite ver que Ryan es un hombre que cuida a los suyos, alguien nacido para ser un líder, el tipo de jugador enfocado, centrado y comprometido. El pasado de Ryan también explica por qué duda, y miente para poder lograr sus ambiciones. Él, a través de su desarrollo, de una lección bastante conmovedora de que el hombre también puede ser dañado casi de forma irreparable por la mujer que ama.

Una de las cosas con que soñé despierta varias semanas después determinar el libro era lo emocionante que sería compartir entrenamiento con Ryan. Amo el baloncesto, y él es un personaje que adora el baloncesto, así que la primera cosa que me encantaría hacer si lo conociera sería tener un día completo solo él y yo practicando tiros a media distancia, tiro libre y triples hasta que las piernas y los brazos ya no puedan más. No hay duda de que me sentiría demasiado completa y feliz al compartir lo que amo con una persona que amo, y sin duda aunque Ryan no es una persona física en este plano donde nos encontramos, lo amo 😍.

La literatura también es uno de los justos de Ryan, y por esa razón tiene una biblioteca bastante amplia en su sala de estar, así que otra de las cosas que me gustaría hacer con él sería una tarde tranquila de lectura en donde compartamos el espacio, pero no tengamos la necesidad de invadir ni entorpecer nuestro momento de tranquilidad en medio de la literatura. Ryan, en sus mejores días también es alguien que sabe escuchar muy bien a otros, así que me gustaría aprovechar algunos de esos días y contarle sobre las novelas rosas o de romance que no son de su preferencia pero que él estaría atento a mis comentarios porque es ese tipo de persona.

Este personaje que me ha encantado, también se caracteriza porque tiene una personalidad muy seca e indiferente, algo con lo que me sentí bastante identificada porque aunque nos preocupemos por las personas que queremos no significa que vamos a exteriorizar nuestros sentimientos y emociones; esto es uno de los factores que hace del personaje alguien muy apegado a su soledad e independencia. Así que en caso de conocerlo y desarrollar algún vínculo me gustaría que las conversaciones también tengan un punto en donde respetemos nuestra privacidad y esas ganas de mantenernos en casa y alejados del ruido que pueden ocasionar las personas con sus problemas.

Sin duda, es mi tipo ideal, una de las cosas que más me encantaron de su personaje es que es de esos que declara que prefiere dejar morir al mundo para salvarte a ti, y soy de las que prefiere más eso antes que aquellos que te dejarían morir para salvar al mundo, de paso declara con algarabía que estaría orgulloso de hacer eso, lo cual me parece algo extremadamente sexy 😹.

No voy a extenderme demasiado porque si alguien se da la oportunidad de leer el libro, ojalá se enamore tan profundamente como lo hice yo. Esta es mi participación en esta increíble iniciativa que me ha hecho sentir muy feliz y a gusto, siempre es divertido hablar sobre lo que te gusta, no voy a negar que fue un poco difícil escoger al personaje, pero sin duda creo que fue mi mejor elección.
