Chasing Peace: My Idea Of A Perfect Vacation. LOH Contest #236

Sometimes ago, I discussed about this, how I’ve never been on a vacation. It sounds strange right, cause in today's world vacations have become a symbol of wealth, of success. I've never had the chance of going to a distant place to have fun, to take pictures and all.

I believe vacations are beautiful, elusive, but just out of reach for someone like me, or where do I get the fund, smiles. While growing up, I was raised to work hard and that the return of your hardwork is the reward you get, you can't go on to squander it on a vacation. The closest I have had to taking time out was not even up to four hours, it was a certain day I felt somehow, picked up my power bank, phone and went out, I walked some distance and found a very quite place near a deserted river, very spacious and beautiful, no food, no friend, just me sitting down to enjoy nature, that was just the longest, about two to three hours.

Its funny how we've grown up chasing moments of peace, we grow up in a place where ambition can easily become a trap. Just like the last time I said I took time out, I asked my self certain questions that particular day.....what exactly is going on, can I afford one, do I really need a vacation or a break from the endless cycle of survival that this place demands?

Here in Nigeria, work had become our purpose we never take time to really think of enjoyment, joy and all, and if we do, we are all about the expenses seeing how everything and the economy seems to be..

So, if I could take a vacation, it would be something entirely different from the norm. I wouldn’t want the typical tourist spots and those popular/crowded, nor will it be a luxurious place. I would just love somewhere, maybe even a village, somewhere I can take in new fresh air and feel differently, or it would be somewhere surrounded by nature, where the only sound you hear is the rustling of leaves and birds singing, not the constant hum of engines and blares of horn.

The dream vacation I envision is simple but profound, I want a place where I can breath freely without worries, I want somewhere I can be able to lay down on the grass while looking up to the sky, somewhere I won't be bothered or worried of deadlines and piling bills.

I’ve never taken a vacation because I don’t know what it’s like to take a break, there's always something to do, there's always someone who needs something, there's always a goal to achieve, there's always a deadline to meet, there's always one or two bill to clear.

There's really no time and fund for such, but I do certain little things that helps me escape. I hang out with friends, I takes walks, I read, I write, I cherish this little things so much, especially writing. Though, I still long for that full escape, at real vacation where I can reset, recharge, and reconnect with the parts of myself I’ve forgotten, one that isn’t just about leaving the country, but leaving behind the noise and the pressure that come with it.

Someday, I’ll have the chance to be able to take that trip, to fly somewhere new and to let go of the responsibilities that tie me down. For now, it's just best to keep finding peace and solace in my thoughts and in the hope that someday, when the time is right, I’ll finally take that trip and it’ll be everything I’ve ever dreamed of. I no longer believe its a luxury, vacation is a need that I will soon fulfill and until then...
