The Recall

Nadia awoke with a sudden jolt, her mind pulsating as sharp fragmented memories of her came rushing back. The tiny experimental neural implant which was embedded in her brain had malfunctioned again, leading to unpredictable flashes from her past.

As a former government agent who had access to classified files, Nadia had undergone a risky procedure after an accident that nearly took her life, this procedure enhanced her thinking abilities and also gave the govt ability to control her mind as they wish, but it came with a price, unforeseen bouts of recall.

It was the year 2057, a time the world was dominated by advanced technology, memory recalls and control had become a common phenomenon. However, Nadia's case was very different. Her implant held encrypted data so vital to national security, and any glitch or malfunction could jeopardize countless lives.

She had become a walking vault of classified information and a puppet to the government. She needed to find a solution, she was tired of living that way. So Nadia embarked on a dangerous journey.

Nadia had this dark black hair tied in a braid, and striking cyan eyes, a proper characteristic of those with the implant. Her arm was tattooed, with a circuitry design that glowed faintly, a daily reminder of her augmented existence.

Nadia's mission to free herself led her to the outskirts of their city, where a clandestine group called "The Recall" operated. The recall was an opposition to the governments memory recall technology, the tried as much as the could to highlight its flaws and dangers to the public.

Jacob the recall leader and a former colleague, he was a captivating figure with an intimidating stature. He had rebelled against the implants several times after a personal tragedy involving his own sister's faulty recall and mind control by the government. He had these intense green eyes that pierced the soul and a scary scar slashed across his cheek, Jacob commanded respect and fear.

"Hey Jacob, I need your help." Nadia said after the door of Jacobs apartment flung open after a series of knocks on the door.

Jacob examined Nadia closely, considering her words.
"This is the wrong place to be, Nadia. The Recall isn't known for being kind to those connected to the system. I don't trust you?"

Nadia rolled up her sleeve, revealing the circuitry tattoo.

"Don't see me as a government agent. See me as a victim of their experiments, trapped in an endless cycle of recall. I understand the dangers better than anyone."

Jacob's expression softened, acknowledging the truth in Nadia's eyes. He shrugged

"Alright. I'll help you, but on one condition if we must help dismantle the recall technology it'll be on my terms."

Nadia nodded, accepting the terms. She knew uncovering the dark side of the recall system isn't something she can do alone

Together, Nadia and Jacob devised a plan.

They infiltrated the heavily guarded government facility holding technologies for implantations and recalls. They navigated the complex corridors, although Nadia's implant glitched occasionally, as the government tried to shut her down. Instead the snippets of flashes fueled her resolve.

At the central control room, Nadia initiated a massive data breach which exposed the flaws and potential for abuse in the recall technology and how the government had control over people's minds, revealing the truth to the world. Putting her own safety aside, she activated a self-destruct sequence that destroyed the facility and the corrupted technology it housed.

Alarms blared and security forces closed in on them, and their escape seemed more difficult now than their break in. But with the little knowledge of the complex Jacob had about the facility. They disappeared through the depths of the facility's underground tunnels.

They stayed out of their city for months. As their actions caused the people to revolt against the government.

Months later, the recall technology was banned.

The technology is selfishness on the side of the government. Nadia deserves respect in a better way. That kind of experiment should be accepted voluntarily by the holder of the technology.

Sometimes, the government loves to show their power. It truly a bad way to pay back Nadia who served her country before.

You really had a great idea here. With more development this could’ve been an absolute gem of a story. You need to focus on dialogue and action to elevate your ideas into the realm of excellent. Read the tips pinned to the community’s home page. You might find great inspiration there.

Thank you @theinkwell. I actually find it hard doing sci-fi with a bit of action and I can see you guys noticed also. It's always been romance for me, but hopefully with the tips I'll do better this side.
