Splinterlands Art Contest | Ember Thorn

Meet Ember Thorn, a lone wanderer in the splinterlands. A woman born of fire and shadow, her origin shrouded in mystery, with eyes like blazing embers. She possesses an otherworldly allure that both captivate and intimidate those who crossed her path.

She could easily manipulate flames with a mere thought, conjuring infernos that danced at her command. Yet, her abilities were not limited to fire alone; she controlled the shadows as if they were an extension of her very being, she could easily move unseen and strike with lethal precision. Her torn and tattered clothing signifies the trials she faced.

As rumors of Ember's exploits spread, she became a symbol of both hope and fear. Some hailed her as a savior, a beacon of change in a world plagued by evil. Others branded her a menace, a threat to the fragile peace that held their society together.

PROCESS

I've always wanted to create my own original character for the splinterlands contest but I haven't had any ideas until days ago when I made this drawing in my sketchbook. But it didn't really click until I was scrolling the items page on the splinterlands site searching for a character to recreate, I had zero ideas for a fanart so I decided to go back to my sketchbook.

I uploaded my drawing into photoshop and started painting by adding base colours for her hair, clothes, hairpiece and skin. I knew the clothes were going to be so shredded but it sill had to look amazing regardless. I picked specific sharp edged brushes to get the type of clothing I needed.

I then began to add highlights and shadows where necessary, this is my favourite part of painting, where everything comes to life. I started with her skin before moving to her clothes paying attention to the folds and shred patterns. I then moved to her hair, adding more colour and strands to make it more defined. Then I began to paint her hair piece and worked a bit on the background, nothing too shabby🤷....

Finally, I added a bit of glow to her eye balls, added some hints of purple and warmth around certain parts of the clothes and her face. Honestly, watching this go from a simple drawing to a full painting is so mind-blowing, I always feel happy when I create and I hope you love this one..
