Cosmic Creations #4 | Fear of Fire 🔥

Many years ago, there was a terrible fire incident that took the lives of a family of five, I still think about that family from time to time. I don't remember the whole story but I think it was caused by a candle, it burned so low into the floor carpet and other things, they ended up inhaling too much smoke and got too weak. Before the neighbours could notice and call for help, they had died and lost some of their stuff, that story scared me!!

My worst fear? Dying or loosing my possessions to a fire.
Burning up in a fire is one of the worst ways to die. The mere thought of dying amidst flames, with no way to escape sends shivers down my spine. The helplessness, fear, anxiety, fire is one thing that can render one's possessions, memories and life useless. This fear has actually made me learn to take preventive measures and also be knowledgeable about fire safety.

PROCESS

Painting fire and some facial expressions are among the things I stuggle with, two of them in one work? Well ☹️ 🤷
Sketching this work was quick and easy, I knew before hand that capturing the facial expression was going to be a huge challenge. My idea was to create a young woman screaming in anger and tears after losing her home to a fire. I painted flat colours to her skin, clothes, hair and also painted her facial features. The initial pan was to paint open eyes but it didn't work well with the expression so I erased and repainted. I then added details to her skin and clothes, more strands and colour to her hair, before painting the fire and glow to her hair. I'm really glad her tears looked okay, this took a while and I'm satisfied with the outcome. This work is my submission to the AAH cosmic creations contest, you can check it out here.
