Saturday's morning at Three Pheel

One ritual we don't fail to perform on our everyday Saturday's jogging is a one-cup gulp of coffee from my favorite coffee shop, Three Pheel, located along the road linking to our street.
It was early morning around 5:45am on a Saturday's morning and we were getting ready to hit the road.

"Pascal, remember to get your debit card along while coming out!" I said in a slight loud voice because my brother, Pascal, was inside the room dressing up in his kits while I was doing mine in the parlor. Each time we go out to jog on Saturdays, we usually ration the pay for coffee, and it was his turn to pay.

He came out of the room to meet me still kitting up, and he couldn't hide how disappointed he was, "Must you always delay? Look at the time; it's also 6:00 a.m."

I knew if I replied, we would turn it into a series of talks, so I just kept mute and continued my dressup. I was done within minutes, and off we went.

We hit the road and began to jog. I was pacing faster while Pascal was at the back, feeling unbothered because it's not a competition.

We jogged for 40 minutes, and when we got to Three Pheel's front space, they were already opened as usual.

My brother, who was at my back, paced more, overtook me, and jogged into the premises, and I just smiled.
While approaching the big door area, he paused and turned to me, looking weird.

"What?" I asked when I noticed the look on his face.

"Ummmm.... Can't you see the new touch on the premises?"

"Oh! It's true; it wasn't like this the last Friday we came."

We walked to the door, softly pushed it, entered, and walked to the extreme spot, our favorite spot.
I was gazing at the hall and expecting to see a significant change inside the hall as it is with the outside, but there was nothing like that.
Immediately we sat down, my brother waved his hands at the attendants on duty, and quickly, Charles, our favorite attendant, walked up to us with smiles all over his face as if he had won an early morning jackpot.

"Welcome, sir. Nice to have you guys again." The excessive smile on Charles's face caught my brother's attention, and he gazed his eyes at him, trying to figure out what could be happening to him.

"Get us our usual," I said as I glued to my phone.

"The usual?" Charles asked back with a smiling face.

"Yes, the usual," Pascal rushedly replied.

"Hahahah! The usual? That's funny. Please properly place your order." Charles was still smiling excessively, but this time with a mixed face of confusion on his face.

Immediately after he said that, I and my brother turned up our heads out of surprise and said in unison, "Can you be serious!"

"I'm very serious; forget the fact that I'm smiling." Charles wore off the smiles on his face, and it turned to the normal face I always see in Charles's face.

"Hold on, you mean you don't know me? I don't understand." My curiosity level was at its peak already.

"Sir, the thing is..."

I interrupted, "Enough! Enough! Get us two cups of Quake-brewed coffee" I had lost it already; I couldn't comprehend what was happening.

Pascal was just there watching the drama between the two of us, "I'm still trying to figure out what's happening; it seems they implanted a robotic brain inside Charles's system," he finally let out his mind.

"It's possible because the smile on his face is not usual. Let me try out something..." I waved my hands at the attendants, and Gloria, one of the staff members that we are familiar with, walked up to us.

"Goodmorning sir. Has Charles not taken your orders?"

"He has, but..."

Charles popped up in an unprofessional manner, with the cups of coffee as he used his shoulder to pushed off Gloria, "they're ready, sir. Thank you"

Gloria was about to return to her post as soon as Charles popped in, but I called her back and i asked her in a low voice,
"Is there anything wrong? Charles's smile was weird, and he couldn't get my usual when I gave him my order"

Gloria's countenance changed with a pretentious face; she tried to hide her face, and at that particular point, we knew there was something wrong.

"Okay, let me tell you, but don't let it out to anybody..." She paused, looked sideways to make sure no other customers were closeby, and she continued, "We've been noticing a psych issue in Charles, which we've been observing for some days, but from your complaints, it's obvious now, and we need to report to the management." She walked away as she dropped the bomb.

"This is serious." This took a deep sig

My brother, Pascal, didn't feel strange at what Gloria said, he gulped his coffee and stood up and expecting me to do thesame but my mind was heavy already.

"Pour this thing into your mouth let's go, or are you a psychiatric doctor to fix him?"

His words pulled me up; I gulped mine in three pours, and we left the scene.
We had a long talk of the situation as we jogged home.

Poor Charles, it isn't easy to live with such a condition. Soon enough, he would be laid off from work due to incompetence or maybe another big grammer that the employers would speak. Tch.
