TALKING ABOUT FUNNY EXPERIENCES

avatar

You know stress is something that affects our mental health in ways that we can not begin to count, I was deliberating on what to write, and it was beginning to look as though I had never had a funny experience which isn't true by the way, my brain has not just been able to think of something all day. So without further ado, I will be sharing a very funny story that happened to me some years back, actually it happened to my dad, but I was with him when it happened, which I haven't been able to forget. Anytime I think about it, I end up smiling to myself, but then again, I also end up remembering why it is good to take care of our mental health.

It happened about 8 years ago, I had already finished secondary school and was about to take my second JAMB exam (JOINT ADMISSION MATRICULATION BOARD) as I had not entered school even after passing JAMB the previous year. That Day my dad found a way to get me into a private polytechnic that were accepting students without jamb (that's where I just finished) I wasn't too happy about it, but I guess he was very happy especially because I had finally accepted a course (computer engineering) after frequent refusal from different schools. You wouldn't blame me, I didn't just see myself studying agricultural science as a course talk less hospitality management.

So we had come to Port Harcourt that fateful day, on which he drove from Warri to Port Harcourt to be sure of where I was going to be spending the next 5 years of my life (which unfortunately turned out to be 8 Years lol). It was already summer, so heat was a frequent thing, so my dad turned on the air conditioner throughout the Journey. By the time we were done with all the registration, it was already past 2:00 p.m. with the heat raining as though someone forgot to close the gates of hell. My dad turned on the air conditioner as usual, but we were still sweating profusely. It wasn't long before I noticed that the car wiper was working, I looked at the weather, and the sun was still very much out. So I thought my dad mistakenly turned on the wiper by mistake.

I casually said the wiper is on, but my dad did not answer me, thinking he did not hear me my mum said it out loud noticing it too, and it was then he said *"can't you people see the rain is falling… " * it was at this point we all looked at each other (my mum, my sister and I ) and checked the weather again to be sure we weren't the ones seeing things. My mum then asked which rain? but my dad kept on insisting that the rain was falling. This went on for about two minutes until he realized there was no rain. My mum had to tell him to park the car and allow her to drive for the remaining part of the journey, and that was when we realized he slept off in not less than five minutes of not driving. He had driven to Abuja the previous day and out of excitement we decided to go and check out my school that day. Even all the times he was driving he was attending to calls from work which had obviously affected his mental health making him mistake sun for rain. Since then my mum never allows him drive when he's exhausted except he insists otherwise.

When we are exhausted, we should rest and not start driving. It is funny your mum kept reminding me about the wrapper but your father didn't pay attention until real experience 😂. I like the partner who can both drive.
