MY AMAZING FINAL ACT FOR THE YEAR

It's no news that I love theater, today I was with a friend recounting my theater experience and how I started acting. I was never an actor, to begin with, I just loved storytelling, I loved the suspense and emotions that come with it. One day a collection of different school fellowships in Rivers State Nigeria was going to have a mega collective Sunday drama program that required every school to present an act. Before then I would normally watch dramas that weren't interesting, and being the president of my school's fellowship (my school has just one fellowship) I was mandated to ensure my school presented something.

So for the first time in my life, I got up and wrote my first script. It was a short story about a girl on campus who died moments after rejecting salvation although she was good and upright, but was judged into condemnation after her truth was told. The drama however went south as there was a wardrobe malfunction with my main character. However, that day opened me up to every potential I had in acting, as I played the character of the judge. I had to be a scriptwriter, a director, and an actor at the same time. The drama director of the fellowships at the University of Port Harcourt then picked interest in me and introduced me to my current theater team. According to him, my story was good, but I needed to learn delivery.

I joined the theater group I'm with currently as a scriptwriter in their team after a month. I was tried in a role, as an old chief that was second in command to the king. My performance in that role brought me to the spotlight as an actor and scriptwriter. I became a better script writer because my theater director who works with Nollywood and has a trademark of training writers and actors trained me. This week I performed my last act of the year acting the role of Joseph in a Yoruba comic theme story about Jesus's birth. Last year I watched the top actor in our theme take the role who's now our director as the former director now works with Hollywood.

Doing it this year made me see my growth. I've understood my strength the most, understanding here that my strength is beyond limits, it might look like I'm growing slowly, but that's only because I have the strength to take on many things. For example, I used to think I wasn't doing enough on hive, seeing people who have come before me achieve so much success. But today I think about it and I see that I have achieved more success than they have. Many of these people only grow in one or two aspects of their life, but I'm growing on hive, I'm growing as a scriptwriter, a sales and copywriter for my company and personal brand, I'm growing in my skill set as a graphics designer, videographer, photographer, and social media manager, I'm growing in my relationship life, I'm growing in my spiritual life, I'm growing in my social life, I'm growing emotionally, I'm growing in character and behavioral pattern. Damn, I've achieved a lot because it takes a lot to grow significantly in at least one of these and I did everything in a year.

The growth journey continues as I hope to achieve excellence, I have watched and rewatched my performance in this drama piece, seeing how I effortlessly did the things I did, said the words without stammering, created a very captivating dialogue with the Mary character, and delivered a wonderful piece and before I did all these I had amazingly created a beautiful story and assisted to direct the rehearsals. Now I'm delivering a very good piece about my journey so far 😂. Isn't it amazing…
