LITTLE BIT OF GOOD IN ALL DIFFICULTY

It hasn't been easy in Nigeria over the past couple of months, 2023 continued for Nigerians as another heartbreaking year with politics ravaging our economy and diplomatically killing the voice of Nigerians. We saw things like electoral manipulations, a further devaluation of the Naira, and huge inflation in the prices of goods and services among others. But even with all the heartbreaking events in recent times, we have been able to strive and fugue out a beam of light at the end of the tunnel. So without further ado, I will be talking about some of the little good that we saw as a Nation.

OUR MOVIE INDUSTRY

Even though our government failed us, our movie industry however gave us reasons to be happy with a lot of blockbusters from Nigerian producers. We saw movies like; Breath of Life, Jagun-Jagun, The tribe called Judah, She Must Be Obeyed, Merry Men, gang of Lagos, and a lot more that I can't remember. Statistics show the gross revenue from Nollywood in 2023 is about 3.2 trillion naira ($3,200,000,000) [You can confirm on your own]. Our movie industry was successful in giving us things to take our minds off the hardship going on in the country for a while by providing us with thrilling movies worth our time.

OUR MUSIC INDUSTRY

The Nigerian music industry, (both gospel and circular) was successful in giving us back-to-back hits as they have always done. They didn't even let us digest a dose before feeding us with another Banga and I must admit if not for some of the songs that were released by our amazing artist to lift our spirits, a lot of people would have drowned in depression from the hardship of the nation. Even during the holidays, people who never had much to eat and drink, had jams to merry with which was part of the things that made the celebration enjoyable.

OUR COMEDY INDUSTRY

The Nigerian comedy industry didn't disappoint in giving us back-to-back. There were a lot of comic reliefs from creative content creators (both old and new). If you ever feel bored, or frustrated and you feel like going on Instagram/Facebook reel or TikTok, you might end up burning up your data if you are not careful because of all the amazing content to engage users. A lot of comic reliefs especially that would make you laugh and roll on the floor. I must say our comic creators did a lot for us.

CONTENT CREATORS

Apart from the comedians, we were blessed with a lot of other content creators who inspired us all through the year with content from spoken words, dance, and short drama. These creators may not be under any label, most of which are struggling Nigerians trying to make ends meet through social media engagements, and they succeeded in attaining fame by keeping us engaged with their content and even looking forward to more of it.

In conclusion, I can say 2023 though hard wasn't boring to many Nigerians. I mean who gets bored having all of this creativity at your disposal? It's always nice to have stress relief once in a while after all the hustle of life.

2023 was a great year but 2024 will be greater. No matter the circumstances, we will over them and our needs will be met. We have a God who loves us and wants the best for us so we all shall achieve greater things and the bad economy won’t determine what will become of us.

I'm French and we don't hear much about Nigeria, but it sometimes comes up in the news. So, I'm not very aware of what's happening in your country. However, there is a French YouTuber I follow a lot who travels by van, motorcycle, car all over the world.

Recently, he did a very big road trip during which he passed through your country.

I may not be aware of all the problems in your country, but I do know that it's a beautiful place!

A lot happened really but there are things to be happy about and you have mentioned some of them. The movie industry in particular has been doing really great and that's impressive.

I usually don't watch Nigerian movies but I have been doing so lately. We have a lot to still be happy about in 2023.
