IT WAS ALL FOR LOVE

Even though I'm normally lazy doing things for people, I decided I wanted to express my love to the woman I loved and I did it by making her brand logo. This is a project worth 50 thousand naira and I decided to do it for free because of love. It wasn't easy doing it, normally if I were to do such a logo within the time frame I used in making it for her, I would have charged nothing less than 150 thousand naira with an extra 50 thousand for the rejected design. Oh, I forgot to mention that I made four different designs before she finally picked the one that she loved. My health deteriorated after making that design in ways I wouldn't want to share in this post (maybe another time). But somehow I knew I was sending her a parting gift.

She did appreciate the gift, but it pains me to say I might have even thrown 200 thousand naira worth of effort in the mud because of love. The things we do for love huh!. But then again I do not regret anything I did, and wouldn't change a thing about that part of my past if I had the opportunity to do so. Although those logos were very expensive, I decided I was going to show love and I did so. My idea for showing love was never to receive the love back even though I hoped I would but then again it's painful knowing that she didn't see the value in something she wouldn't be able to pay for at this point of her life.

A friend of mine asked if I could design her a second-degree logo, (a long one that would require just her brand name) and I charged her 7,000 naira instead of my normal 20 thousand naira charge. I charged that amount because we have been friends for a very long time, yet she was expecting I would do it for free. I might have done it for free, but I was still recovering from the heartbreak caused by the one I did a first-degree logo for.(A logo architecturally drawn from scratch). One might say it's just a logo, why is it so expensive? But then unless you agree that I would do the same logo for another brand, you would have to pay well for it not to talk about the amount of work put into making such a logo.

I had sleepless nights making the first-degree logo, but at the end of the day, it seemed it was all for waste. If you look at Nike or Adidas, (Nike is first degree Adidas is second degree) you will notice that even the fake of those products can not carry the original design. This is because, at the end of the day, only the creator of the logo can make that exact logo look exactly like it should be. There's always something wrong with the copied logo, it's either better or less than the original. And for this graphic designers sign a non-disclosure agreement which means they can't make such logos for other clients and sometimes submit the logo prototype and get a handsome reward in exchange, but I gave it all for free to someone who didn't value it.

And as a matter of fact, people like that won't value what you did for them as they would assume it's a simple thing, not knowing the stress you had to go through to get it done, all for the sake of love when someone else could have wanted that and paid high amount.

Thank you for sharing such a personal feeling. It is very interesting indeed how work is valued by people. Often it is people closest to us, and sometimes we ourselves, who devalue our work. In artistic endeavours within commercial situations it is always a big debate on how much an idea is worth. For eg. there are still people dumb enough to think that the Nike logo is overpriced and not wort the awe. If you ever write on how valuation works in the area of brand creation and logos in particular please do tag me as i am interested to better understand this space.

I hope personally you are in a better place now. And I hope the bad exerience has not soured you off love itself.

Cheers from a fellow #Dreemerforlife

I appreciate your comment.
Yes I'm in a better place now, I've moved on from there. And I will remember to tag you when making another post about design.

The Nike logo looks very simple with today's technology, but considering bringing out such masterpiece that can still be relevant in today's digital age makes the logo worth it

Not to be appreciated after putting such an effort to make your fellow human being happy is terrible. Things we do in the name of love.. Lol.

You're a nice person and don't let this experience stop you from being nice to those who truly deserve it.

Things we do for love shall, she may not know all the effort you put into making for her the brand logo, reason she may not have appreciated it.

Sometimes people take gifts for granted because they don't know what they are worth.

I'm sending you good vibes and blessings on her behalf !LUV #dreamerforlife
