I WISHED I NEVER GAVE IN

Living is fun when you get to make the most out of life. But sometimes things get messy and there's nothing we can do about it. I remember a time in my life when I got to meet a new friend in school, it was in my early days in the higher institution when I was still being clingy and would do anything to have a friend. Not that I didn't have friends, but I was being a normal teenager who wanted to explore a new world of socialization in a higher institution. Before entering the higher institution, I was used to always being in the spotlight, the coolest kid in school, and now in a much larger audience plus a new environment, I discovered that I was now just any random guy.

I started making friends, and although I was very selective in the process, yet I still made a mistake with one who almost ruined my life. He was the course rep of the entire engineering faculty (which I am now) so it was definite that he was one of the coolest kids on campus. We became friends and he began to introduce me to the business world of affiliate marketing, because of my interest to make money early in life, with absolutely no experience in business, I trusted him with my life.

A time came when he told me some of the physical products he was marketing got compromised In an accident and he needed about 37,000 naira to get those products so he doesn't get into trouble with the company he was marketing for. He said he had a plan to double the money within a month, but he will need the money for the products. He kept talking about the need for money for three days, emphasizing how he was losing money on a daily basis because of how the products he didn't have. During that period, I got some money which included my allowance for the week, and some money for not-too-urgent textbooks. Seeing how things were turning out for him, I told him I had the amount he needed and the use of the money.

He begged me to give it to him and I will get 50% of the profit when he sold off the products. What he never told me was that he was buying the products from the company, unfortunately in the process, the company took the 37,000 which was the value of the product he was to remit, and didn't give him any product for breaching the agreement with the company. When he told me, at first I didn't know what to do, he was assuring me that he will refund the money to me in no time, but it was now clear to me that I was in for it. If he wasn't able to pay the company, where on earth was he going to see money to give me. His parents hardly sent him pocket money, later I got to know that he feeds off the people around him. That period was one of the most difficult periods in my life in school because he ended up giving me only 5,000 naira, which was his feeding money from his parents for the month. That month I had to starve myself when I got my weekly allowance, plus fabricated some white lie to my parents so I could meet up with the payment on time.

50% profit was a red flag for me but maybe because you are still a student and he was your friend, you still give in to his request. Thankfully, that was from the past and you were able to make it through.

If it happens in the present, I wouldn't even agree at all. Thanks for stopping by.
