FINDING MYSELF IN AN ACT OF SERVICE

(Edited)

One day I was in a church camp, hungry and exhausted because I had been working nonstop. I don't know about other places but where I come from, we are meant to stay in a long queue for every meal, the meal isn't that much, but as long as everyone gets served, all is fine. But there are always those who happen to know someone who works in the kitchen, and even if at least your friend knows someone like that, you don't know what the lord has done for you. Surviving in the camp when you do not have money of your own can be very painful because you would have to wait for the camp food to be ready which is usually small. Okay, I guess I've diverted a bit.

So back to the story, I just happen to be one of the executives, but I think that should mean I would not have to worry about food, except that they skipped me in the count for the first day. Now I would have to join the long queue of about 500 people to get served. I was too tired to do that so I thought why not ask my friends (whom I've been working tirelessly to get them accommodations) to help me? But to my amazement, they knew someone in the kitchen and got food for themselves without counting me. If that was the only issue it wouldn't have been much of a problem, but the major problem here was that even after they knew I hadn't eaten, they wouldn't move an inch for me.

I decided I might just survive on snacks for the night until a friend of one of my friends who was just hanging around decided to leave her food and help me get food. If you think that was a good deed, think again. The thing was that it was already too late and the cooks had finished serving, but this lady spent almost two hours trying to get me food. I had even forgotten she went to get me food when she came back all sweaty like someone who went to war for food. To be honest with you, remember when they say the way to a man's heart is through his stomach… my heart melted instantly, look at me short of words to even say thank you without choking on my words.

I didn't know what to do for her at that instance, so I wrote her a thank you note and gave her a day off the day we were leaving camp. And that was the beginning of a great friendship that has lasted 5 years. If I didn't have a sister, she would have been my only sister, she's my best friend and more. I don't know how I would have fought a lot of battles I have overcome and I'm still fighting now if she wasn't in my life. But then again, I have come to notice that what has brought us thus far is her continuous act of service. When you think she did something, you don't know what next she's cooking up. This is someone who would go to great lengths for me, and her acts of service didn't just catch my attention, but my love as well.

Awwnnn, seems like I'm hearing wedding bells or are my ears deceiving me, lol.
That was so kind of her to do all these for you. She indeed found your heart with food.
