Marathon Eindhoven was a great success again

Before you get all exited about how I conquered the brutal distance of 42 kilometers and 195 meters, going through wind and weather, whisking people off the road who were in my way, receiving applause and coming over the finishline looking like a model, without a break of sweat hands high in the sky and resetting my new PR even sharper compared to last time....

...nothing like any of that since I am a fulltime spectator of this is whole situation. But apart from doing absolute nothing during this race as well as any other over the last couple of years, I love good city event where there are a lot of spectators in the city, and even more people running the entire or the partial marathon.

The weather was predicted hot for the October version. And honestly, I can remember a lot more very warm October days where the marathons were held. But the initial predictions were like 25 degrees Celsius and sunny which is a bit too much for making such a physical effort.

But luckily this was downgraded a bit for the sake of the runners to a very pleasant 19 degrees celsius and a half sun. Perfect specttor weather I can confirm, and I guess for the runners it was quite acceptable as well.

Cheering on

It is a lot more fun following the marathon or the half marathon when you have some people you are cheering for during the race. Can you even call it a race? Or is it more a race against yourself in the end?

But where to stand and look in this gigantic loop of options?

Stand at the end of the track where people can appreciate the cheering the most? Stand in the beginning where they still have a long way to go? The cheering won't help at the end anymore I guess. Stand on the long roads where there is no place to hide from the wind which will be brutal on the mental state (but common...as a spectator that is also not really a cool place to stand!).

Or take the option of hopping around and support the friends at more than one spot? Boom, that is the perfect plan!

And what about the pros?

Well, there is also a race for the real pros and back in the days the race track from the city of Eindhoven was known on that it was a good track to set really fast times, which would attract good athletes who were trying to set a better record for themselves, which was always cool.

The pro's is a whole different ballgame. They remain in a group most of the time and are just miles ahead of the rest of the pack. A whole different level. With a time of 2.04,52 this again was a super fast time, and the race was won by Kenneth Kipkemoi who set a new fastest race track time again.

And with 27.000 amateurs running and more than 100.000 spectators all throughout the city...I can yet again say that this was a fantastic event on a beautiful day.

But to run it..?? Nehhh, I'm gonna stick to being a spectator and be good at that ;)
