🌊 A HIVE Idea Is Brewing πŸ¦† Rubber Ducky Whitewater Races 🏁With HBD Prizes πŸ’΅

For far too long I've been thinking about a fun competition/challenge that would bring fellow Hivers together in fun, friendly rivalry, and also have some crypto prizes.

πŸ€” Nostalgia Triggers Ideas

Β  Β  Β While my wife and I were picking up some items from a local shipping agent, I looked to the left at the small shop next door and saw some small rubber duckies for sale, and it was then I knew I had to have them all, 40 in total. I had already decided I wanted to make use of the whitewater river behind our house for some kind of race on this blockchain, and originally I was going to use scraps of wood to make small boats.

Β  Β  Β But the moment I saw rubber ducks at a small shop here in rural Cambodia, American nostalgia was triggered and I remembered how popular rubber ducky races are in big cities all across the USA. Obviously my 40 ducks would produce a much smaller scale competition, but that would also bring high chances of winning, and our river has a natural choke point where we could easily collect the ducks.

πŸ¦† How They Do It In 'Merica 🏁

Β  Β  Β The above video gives you a pretty good idea of how this works, a very simple concept. I am still figuring out the logistics of how we could do this behind our river, of course with close-up video shots and a proper finish line. My daughters would likely be my helpers, and so far my idea is to give them post beneficiary rewards for this potential future assistance. 3Speak would be the obvious choice for uploading the video, and I think there is now a live streaming option, although I haven't experimented with it yet.

πŸ‘‚ Thoughts, Feedback.....?

Β  Β  Β My daughters have some permanent markers, and after a test to see if the ink would stain the ducks and not wash off, it worked. At the moment the project is to give each ducky a unique artistic style and number (on the bottom) that will make it easy to differentiate the ducks and also make things more fun. My idea for prizes is to charge $1 HBD for each ducky, and this would create a $40 HBD prize pool. To make it worth our time, I would like to keep 50% of the prizes and use the other 50% as prizes.

Β  Β  Β 1st Prize $10 HBD, 2nd Prize $6 HBD, and a 3rd Prize of $4 HBD seems to be a good allocation of the potential reward pool, but most of all I would like feedback from you Hivers and potential racers. I am open to ideas, but I think at the moment I have a good framework to begin with. I've already had extra ideas like allowing specific ducks to be released early for an extra fee, switching up the crypto prizes and entry fees, perhaps using Hive-Engine tokens and partnering up with various Hive communities for each weekly race.

Β  Β  Β What do you all think? I'd love to hear feedback, ideas, anything that would expand the reach, fun, prize pool, etc.

oh, how fun! A duckie derby on your river sounds like a fabulous idea! πŸ˜ƒ

I love the thought of it, but at the moment the flood would make it a life threatening ordeal to scoop the ducks from the river. The rains seem to have calmed down and the river is less violent, so as soon as I finish giving each duck a unique Sharpie marker makeover we'll be racing.

I can't wait to get this idea off the ground. I am sure the first several races will be filled with glitches, but I think overall the concept is solid and with video footage it'll be super engaging.

Good to hear, the interest in this serves as even more motivation. I am working on giving the ducks makeovers now.

I think your idea is good as you explain it, it would be great something like this, I will be attentive to your new post on this topic, if you can mention me please so I don't miss it and see how it goes. !LUV

I think it will be fun, my biggest concern is how to take video footage that isn't shaky as I navigate my way alongside the river. I have a phone camera, Go-Pro, and handicam, so perhaps I could arrange three separate cams, definitely a finish line shot will be the most important.

It would be great to use a Go-Pro for this case, so that the phone doesn't get wet and damaged by the water, and of course the most important thing would be the shot of the arrival at the finish line.

But you can't do all that by yourself, believe that your daughters can help you, each one would take a different camera and each one would be responsible for taking different shots, one of you being prepared at the finish line waiting for the right moment while the other tries to go behind each duck to make some shots, that would be my crazy idea hahaha. !LOLZ

I totally agree, we'll have to formulate a plan and stay organized. I'm sure after a couple runs we'll work like a well-oiled machine.

It's a really cool idea and looks like a lot of fun could be had with it. I am very interested and looking forward to more.

Thank you, it seems it will be quite easy to find duck racers, so I guess the hardest part will be the logistics of how to film it all in an engaging way.

Sounds like fun! Curious to learn how this will unfold...

Me too, I think I'll have to do a freebie race first as a demo, perhaps give the top 40 ASEAN Hive delegators a free ducky, dispense beneficiary rewards for the very first post and use it as an announcement/example for future races.

Do it! That's a fantastic idea. I will definitely be buying a duck when it's time. I gotta tell you, though, I'd be a little tempted to make each duck maybe $2 each.

Good on ya for snatching the little beasties up!

Well, honestly you are probably right. After some thought, with the video footage, the logistics, editing, uploading, posting, it will be a full day each week spent on this hopefully weekly race. I $2 HBD x 40 ducks would make an $80 HBD pool, and if half is for me to keep, that $40 HBD with some posting rewards would be well worth my time, and likely more sustainable in the longterm.

Perhaps a 1st Prize $20 HBD, 2nd Prize $15 HBD, and a 3rd Prize $5 HBD, thoughts? I think three prizes would be more entertaining than one massive winner, but I would rather do what possible racers and Hivers think is the most entertaining.

I can't wait, haven't been this excited for a while. I like the excuse to get outdoors for computer work too.

I think this would be a fantastic idea as long as @davidke20 doesn't win every time. I would definitely participate, but only buy 1 to keep things fair.

It's not a joke. My duck has a turbo propeller strapped behind it's butt πŸ€ͺ

Perhaps with a little advancement in tech we could eventually equip ducks with weapons.

Haha, all is fair in the ducky race. So far based on the little effort I have put into spreading the word, I think it should be easy to find 40 racers. I think for the first race/run/demo we'll just film it and give the top 40 delegators each a duck in the race, award post beneficiary percentages and post the rules and guidelines for future races within the same post.
