The Numbers Didn't Add Up | ZAPFIC MONDAY (3/11/24) | Prompt: dribble (regate)
This week for the ZAPFIC Monday challenge, the prompt "dribble" presented the opportunity to address a pet peeve I have with faucets and other facilities in the home that drip water unnecessary. If left unattended, the problem can grow into an even larger one with inflated utility expenses. I present a flash fiction story related to this in the format created by @felt.buzz whereby the story is told in 240 characters or less.
My story is below:
It hadn't rained for weeks. Unable to figure out the small stream gathering in the backyard, the Avery's lay in bed nights fretting over the sight, and ignored the steady drip behind the bathroom wall.
That is, until the water bill arrived.

Esta semana, para el reto de los lunes de ZAPFIC, el tema "goteo" me brindó la oportunidad de abordar una manía que tengo con los grifos y otras instalaciones del hogar que gotean agua innecesariamente. Si no se atiende, el problema puede convertirse en uno aún mayor, con gastos de suministros inflados. Presento una historia de ficción flash relacionada con esto en el formato creado por @felt.buzz, según el cual la historia se cuenta en 240 caracteres o menos.

Hacía semanas que no llovía. Incapaces de descifrar el pequeño arroyo que se acumulaba en el patio trasero, los Avery pasaban las noches en la cama preocupados por lo que veían e ignoraban el goteo constante detrás de la pared del cuarto de baño.

Yes, it certain is when you can't pinpoint it. I encountered this, and by the time we realized what was wrong, the entire bathroom wall had to be removed for water damage inside.
I don't know why I didn't act on that occasion since I'm the one who hears every sound there is in the house and urges hubby to run investigate. Inaction equals unnecessary and costly expense.
