It's time for the ZAPFIC50 Monday. This challenge by @felt-buzz provides members with the opportunity to present a flash fiction story in exactly 50 words. In this week's prompt, "agency", I explore another meaning of the word that means the ability to take appropriate action when prompted by a significant event.
My story is below:
Shocked, Elizabeth stiffened. Immediately her attorney reached over, steadying her hand.
Wait! it signaled.
Jeremy had agreed to keep the proceeding civil. Now, he was protesting her claim for custody.
His betrayal prompted her sense of agency. Elizabeth nodded.
Her attorney complied, introducing documentation of Jeremy's obscene, dark web activities.

Hello @kemmyb. Not intentionally withheld. After already agreeing to step away from the marriage amicably, hubris wouldn't allow him to believe she knew nothing of his secret life she suspected, then found out later. Challenging her was the wrong move. He gambled and lost.
Yes, indeed. The troubles of divorce. Never a win-win situation when children are involved. She probably didn't want his secrets to come out to shield them.
