Eliminating the Competition | ZAPFIC MONDAY (4/29/24) | Prompt: barrel (barril)
This week for the ZAPFIC Monday challenge, the prompt "barrel" presented the opportunity to provide a flash fiction alternate use of the word as we normally think of a container one places items in, whether liquid or solid.
When I was a teen, I would hear family and others talk about individuals who they didn't care for. My family would always say that others had an advantage over them by being in a certain position. These individuals exerted power merely by allowing or disallowing events to happen that affected my family. They called this power as "a barrel over their head". I didn't quite understand until I was an adult.
I share with you a story in that vein in the format of 240 words of less. This format was created by @felt.buzz.
My story is below:
Sam met with his Team, Reel-Men, to strategize for the fishing tournament's trophy.
Seething, Allen, the strongest member, yelled, "my boss is friends with our competitor. He's got me over a barrel, and he knows it by changing my schedule."

Esta semana, para el desafío de los lunes de ZAPFIC, el tema «barril» nos brindó la oportunidad de hacer un uso alternativo de ficción flash de la palabra, tal y como pensamos normalmente en un recipiente en el que se colocan objetos, ya sean líquidos o sólidos.
Cuando era adolescente, oía a mi familia y a otras personas hablar de personas que no les gustaban. Mi familia siempre decía que otros tenían ventaja sobre ellos por estar en una determinada posición. Estos individuos ejercían poder simplemente por permitir o no que sucedieran acontecimientos que afectaban a mi familia. Llamaban a este poder «un barril sobre su cabeza». No lo entendí hasta que fui adulto.
Comparto con ustedes una historia en ese sentido en el formato de 240 palabras o menos. Este formato fue creado por @felt.buzz.
