The door swung wide. Stealthily as if searching out its target, the long, shiny sword poked through the opening. It paused, then advanced in the direction of the window. The sword stopped once it reached the neck of its intended victim. Were it not for the shadow with five prongs on top reflected on the opposite wall, Shelly would have panicked. Instead, she shot a glance out the corner of her eye, cleared her throat, then continued keyboarding at her desk.

With the flick of her wrist, she knocked the toy sword from her younger brother's hand, then turned in his direction. She laughed loud at his knight's costume that flowed behind.

Kyle continued on with his reason for barging into his sister's room.

"I command you to kneel for the king," Kyle shouted in a voice meant to mimic an adult.

Shelly turned and flashed an angry eye. Tonight was not the night for childish games.

"I don't have time for this, Kyle. My English report is due tomorrow. Besides, you should be kneeling to me."

"Why would I do that!" Seven-year-old Kyle stepped back a few paces. He scratched his head with his other hand, then hissed. "Men don't kneel to women."

"Mom," Shelly yelled, then shook her head, "Come get this boy and make him read those books you bought on famous queens in history."

Kyle interrupted her. "Shhh....No need to call mom. I'm trying to get her to let me read some of the comic books dad bought. Besides, I know all I need to about kneeling from watching cartoons."*

"Well, Kyle, the expert cartoon watcher. I'll have you know that in history there ruled powerful queens whose subject knelt to them. Even in the animal kingdom, elephants have queens. Then you have the insect world, such as bees and ants. Their subjects obey and worship them."

Kyle stopped for moment. He swung his sword back and forth hitting the floor as if searching for an answer to Shelly's revelation. Suddenly, with lips pursed, he looked straight into her eyes with a smile on his face.

"I'll bet you the bees and ants do not know any better. Besides, if they could read, they would know that the natural order of things is that men rule everything."

Shelly burst out laughing. Her brother was famous for spouting nonsense. But on this issue, she felt he needed correcting.

"Where did you get that crazy idea from?" Shelly immediately called out again for her mom. She wanted to ensure that she heard Kyle's answer so she could address it with the books.

But before their mom arrived, Kyle placed his hands on his hips and announced proudly as if his information came from an expert.

"It's not crazy because I remember hearing dad in his office talking on the phone."

"¿De dónde has sacado esa idea tan loca?".

Yeah, awesome. 😍

I love this initiative of daily prompts and I can see how it's even possible to get inspired by the previous ones.
I loved your story, I already said it. That dialogue is so good that I could feel the atmosphere and immerse myself in the story, as if I were part of it.

Thanks for sharing.

Hello @nanixxx. I'm thoroughly pleased with your reaction to my story and appreciate the lovely compliment. Often, I'm busy with another type project and miss the daily prompt, so I return to see which ones inspire a story with a message I can impart.

Yes, I'm happy the dialogue worked between the siblings flowing from big sister to little brother.

Thanks so much for your visit. I appreciate the support. Take care and have a good rest of your week.

...the natural order of things is that men rule everything.

Oh, wow. Is that so? 😄 That's a male chauvinist in the making and thanks in part to the dad. Unless Shelly and their mother get serious with Kyle and teach him the negatives of such mindset, it might result in prejudices.

A delightful and humourous story. I enjoyed the dialogue and camaraderie between the siblings. They are young, smart and already growing into intelligent people with the right guide from their parents. Beautifully written!

Hello @kemmyb. Thanks for stopping by and viewing my post. That dad is a piece of work, isn't he? Sounds like a throw-back of the old Masonic order like my dad and his club brothers with their secret codes and handshakes!

I'm pleased you enjoyed my story, especially the siblings' interaction. Older sister was right to call in mom for reinforcement. Kyle needs to read more, and the right material to learn women's contributions to this world. Never too late to start with a dad like that.

It reminds me the fact that no matter that you do and say, there's a possibility that someone will see or hear you, unless you're totally alone and aware. Be careful what you do and say. The impression you leave with little ones can last a lifetime.

Mom needs to speak also with dad, and immediately!

I appreciate your kind compliment for my story and your support. Take care.
