Dreams do come true in different ways

When we were a child, we used to have our childhood dreams. We used to dream to be like the people around us. We want to be like our father, our mother, our teacher or anyone else we know that someday we want to be like them.

Looking to someone that pleases us or make us happy, we then says that someday I will be like him/her.

My childhood dream

When I was a child, I really love seeing our teacher in front of us teaching us lessons that we need to learn. I like how they become our second parents in school who tried to attend our needs.

I learned that teacher is a person who will teach every student to learn lessons. Doctors, engineers, lawyers, accountants, nurses, medical technologists, midwives and all profession in the world didn't became who they are right now without a teacher. Having that thought I wanted to be a teacher, I wanted to be part of the students life, I wanted to be part of someone's success.

Dream changed

Day by day as I grew up, I think about my childhood dream. Am I good enough to be a teacher? Do I have the best qualities of a teacher? Can I do what the best teacher did? I always asked myself about it.

If you were able to read my previous article, you will know that we're a big family and I am the eldest.

I used to teach my younger siblings on their lessons too. I felt happy everytime I helped them. I felt happy if they are smart and easy to catch up but one of my younger siblings have a hard time in understanding the lessons easily. I need to repeat it again and again but still she cannot understand me. She used to cry when I teach her because she cannot catch up with the lessons. Me as her teacher at home felt bad and lost my patience and sometimes cried because of disappointment.

I told myself that I am not worthy to be a teacher because I wanted that my student are all smart. What's the use of a teacher if the student are all good enough on their lessons. Teachers are to teach, right?

I don't have enough patience to handle students and patience is one of the qualities that a teacher should have. A teacher need it to handle students with different attitude, with different qualities, with different skills, with different talents and above all with different intelligence.

My dream of being a teacher someday slowly faded because of that reason.

I then dreamed to be a nurse helping sick people to become well and regain health but my parents can't afford the financial needs of this course and even told me not to proceed to college.

I wanted to go to college and my mother helped me to apply a scholarship. To make the long story short, I passed for two year scholarship and enrolled in one of the colleges in our town. I enrolled to be a Computer Science student following the advice of my aunt. According to her, this course will help me learn about computers and will find a good job someday because most companies are using computers.

I enrolled without having a clear goal and just go with the flow. Despite of hardships I graduated on that course but haven't practiced what I learned in school for a very long time until now. I forget almost everything that I am ashamed to tell people that I graduated on that course.

Dreams do come true in different ways

I got married and became a mother and on that moment everything changed. My dreams before who only focused about myself changed into a dreams for my family and most especially for my son. I chose to resign from work and become a full time mom and housewife.

Motherhood is the best profession in the world. Mother is the first teacher of her child/children. She is responsible for shaping them to be a good person in front of people and of God.

Being a mother, I became a teacher, my childhood dream was fulfilled just in different ways.

I am my son's first teacher who teached him how to write, I teached him the alphabets, the colors, the shapes, the parts of the body.

I teached him how to do mathematics. At home he first learned how to solve addition and subtraction.

I am also the first person to teach him how to read.

Above all, as a mother I am with his father teaching him to be a good person. As a mother I am trying my very best to be a good model for him in all aspects of his life. I am giving my best and praying to God to be a responsible mother that could teach what is right for my son.

Dreams do really come true in different ways. At first we cannot understand it but later on we will realized that everything happens for a reason and everything happens with a purpose.

Keep on dreaming, keep on aiming it and time will come, you will say, my dream come true.

This is my participation for the hive learners community writing challenge about dream job.

Thank you so much for reading. Keep safe everyone.

Computer Science is tough to read and implement. It is not as easy as people think. Teaching is a good profession and I have respect for this always. I 'm delighted to see it as a dream job. Mother is the first teacher to provide teachings for her offspring. You are doing a good job in teaching.

You're right, computer science is not easy. The technology is improving year by year and if you're not continuing the study, you will be get behind.

Thanks for your kind comments.

I always say to myself and to the people around me that when you studied a course and for whatever reason your career is not in-line with it, that is totally okay and you shouldn't feel guilty about "wasting your time in college and in the end not using it". You will just spend the rest of your life regretting things and building negative emotions on yourself. It's okay to not practice it and it's okay to change your mind later in life if you wanted a different career. You didn't waste your time and in fact you learned a lot there. People just like to shame graduates like you because they wanted to. And even if you graduated a course, it's not a guarantee you'll get a job related to it cos circumstances are at play.

It's good now that you are able to fulfill that dream of yours. The moment you start asking questions if you're gonna be a good teacher means that you will be, cos this shows your concern for the students and how they'll learn. :D

Wow! This is an eye opener. You're right that in those years we still learned. Some lessons are being use and other don't but yes we should not think it is a waste of time. Thank you for these words.
