Cycling Memories While Traveling in Malaysia, Taiwan, Myanmar, and Cambodia

Hi everyone! I just joined the Cycling community just a month ago so here I am joining the contest. Many times I have mentioned in some articles the love of biking and motorbiking.

I learned to drive a bike when I was six or seven years old. I had a friend whose parents were rich in my hometown, she used to invite me to go to their house after school. It was also the time I was able to practice how to ride a bike with the help of their gardener.

Good thing, their garden was rich in green lawn grasses so whenever I fall, it didn't hurt that much.

Anyway, here are some photos of the bike that I've used before.

My First Bike

For how many times I've been searching for a photo of my pink bike, and finally, I found it on Facebook. The name is Marimar as what was written behind the bike seat. This bike is very cute. Many people looked at me when I was driving. The name Marimar suits with the pink color. Right now, my cousin has the bike as she needs to bring her son to school. I acquired this bike sometime in 2010 or 2011 at SM City Cebu for PHP 3,500 or less than $100. Yep, let's say about $70.

Does the name Marimar ring a bell? Marimar was a famous Mexicanovela played by Thalia. Hehehe!

Biking in Melaka, Malaysia

I was able to stay in Malaysia for almost a month as I was doing volunteer work in a hostel in Kuala Lumpur back in 2015. I got the chance to visit Melaka for a few days before going back to the Philippines. It was really hot in Melaka but we still decided to rent a bike for RM 8.00 for the whole day.

It was fun biking from Jonker Street to Melaka State Mosque and took a visit to a museum. We visited many tourist places on that day.

Biking in Taipei, Taiwan

I've been to Taiwan twice in 2016 and twice in 2017. But I stayed longer in 2017 for 25 days in April and 26 days in May-June. I was able to rent a YouBike in Taipei which made me think about our transportation infrastructure in the Philippines. How clean, fast, and efficient the train system is. I enjoyed my life living in Taipei and I was able to visit other counties or provinces, as well.

It was one of my memorable trips back in the day because staying for at least one month in another country was the goal. Thanks to my Japan visa because of the visa-exemption in Taiwan.

Biking in Inle Lake and Mandalay, Myanmar

Another memorable trip to Myanmar as I stayed a month here and visited several provinces in the year 2018. I paid $50 for a 28-day visa but it's free for 14 days for ASEAN countries as I am from the Philippines.

We did a 60-kilometer bike half around the Inle Lake. In the middle of somewhere, we decided to take the long boat of Inle Lake and put our bikes in for the experience. We continued to bike and visit other places on the same day.

When we arrived in Mandalay, we got a free bike from our hotel so it was convenient to visit places and we never had to pay so much. Also, we got a free breakfast in the hotel.

It was so cheap to travel around Myanmar, especially during the low season. You can get a nice hotel for a very cheap price so you can extend your money and spend it somewhere or in another country.

The kind of trip I had in the past was not the luxury type. I am so happy to rent a bike in a place and visit places for cheap.

Riding a Solex in Siem Reap, Cambodia

After a month of staying in Myanmar and Thailand in 2018, I had to do a visa run or border crossing from Thailand to Cambodia. I stayed one week in a new country and I celebrated my 30th birthday with a Solex bike ride adventure in Siem Reap.

That was a birthday well spent as we visited Angkor Wat the next day. But we never rented a bike because we had to be early at 5 AM to catch the sunrise. We were so tired from biking.
