Temple on Kant Island | PhotoFeed Contest - Cityscape Photography Round 65

Hello, friends.
When I am in Kaliningrad, I often visit Immanuel Kant Island and admire the Cathedral. Firstly, because my son lives next to the island, and secondly, because this place is the heart of Kaliningrad.

Today for PhotoFeed Contest - Cityscape Photography Round 65 by @photofeed, I want to offer a photo of the Königsberg Cathedral, Kaliningrad Cathedral on Immanuel Kant Island.

The exact date of the start of construction of the Cathedral is not known; the first mention in documents dates back to September 1333, when it was decided to resume construction of the temple on the island, that is, construction had been going on before, but was suspended.

The date of completion of the Cathedral is considered to be 1380, but construction work continued later.

Until the 16th century, the Cathedral was the main Catholic church in Königsberg, and after the Reformation it became the main Lutheran cathedral in Prussia.

In 1804, near the Cathedral, the German philosopher Immanuel Kant was buried in the “professor’s tomb.”
Currently, the Cathedral building houses Lutheran and Orthodox chapels, as well as the Cathedral Museum and the Immanuel Kant Museum.
